Ok... baby Mandred is 6 days old. As of now, my breasts are soooo sore that I can hardly stand it. Let me STRESS that I am not about to quit just because it hurts. I am NOT going to stop breastfeeding because of pain. Now that that is clear... do you have any natural remedies to ease breast/nipple pain? I have heard that cool tea bags can help? Anything else? Oh, and I am allergic to lanolin, but I am using a non-lanolin nipple cream and cloth nipple pads (i am sensitive to chemicals) Any help would be greatly appreciated by both myself, my son and my husband!
Dont know shit about what youre asking, just wanted to congratulate you ! (Hope you dont consider this as spam... ) PS: Its really Mandred, not Manfred ? That would be a common German name...
Oh, I don't consider it spam! A congrats is always welcome! It is Mandred. Mandred Duncan (with a stong Gaelic last name as well)... my husband and I are both have strong celtic roots. I believe Mandred means "all powerful" in Welsh, and Duncan is a family name on both sides of our family. A lot of people ask me that question, as there is a regional TV News Anchor whose name is Manfred!
I know that the first week and half was hell. But I caught on very quickly. I just kept nursing, and my nipples got used to it. Make sure you and him are getting a good latch on.
My cousin (Who breast feeds a 3 year old and her 8 month old) uses metal spoons she let sit in the freezer for a couple hours, then, after they start to warm up, she uses cold green tea bags. When she isn't nursing or at night before she goes to bed, she rubs vaseline/petrolatum jelly on her nips to soothe them and keep chapping/dry skin at bay.
CONGRATS!!!!! they sell these things called soothies, gel-filled, you can either heat them or cool them. Or you can use a couple rice pillows (that's what I always used). Make sure baby is latched properly, that you are comfy and relaxed, and that you bring baby to the breast rather than bend your body towards the baby. If you were given antibiotics in the hospital, you most likely have thrush. Maggie has a sticky on thrush in the parenting forum. I found gentian violet to be more effective than the prescriptions this last time I had it. And, even if everything seems to be going just fine, seek out a lactation consultant, preferably one who is IBCLC board-certified. At the very least, she will encourage you that everything is just great. I got some really bad advice from some of the hospital LC's I saw when Jenny was brand new, but the very best LC ever also worked at that same hospital.
Wow, ITP, I haven't been around in a week...last week you were pregnant this week you got a little wee one congrats!
