...what's the deal with that? honestly, if us english aren't mimicking american singers, we're putting on fake cockney accents.....WHEN WE AREN'T EVEN FROM LONDON!!! chuh it grinds my gears hehe (family guy quote )
It's all about da money!! a hit in america is the biggest (financial) success a recording artist can have..... Personnally i think it's sounds shit when a singer adopts a false accent (remember terrorvision? *shudder*) .... but i guess the pink rolls royce and luxury mansion have to be funded somehow... *puts on a lil' Ian Dury and forgets about it*
oh well *hangs head* oh well, i guess for us home county people with toff accents would sound silly singing poshly... 'everybody darnce now!'
Yeah, I'm an RP speaking person myself (probably the only one in Suffolk). But that's just not a cool accent to sing with. So the only time I've done anything close to singing punk style, the Cockney's crept in. Interestingly (well I say that, but it's probably not interesting at all) when I saw The Crimea at Beautiful Days last week, the singer had a different accent for every song. I couldn't work out whether she was British, African, Carribbean or American....
I always wondered why so many people sound american when singing... is that actually done on purpose?
It's kind of an accidental thing. I do it, probably due to being heavily influenced by American rock and roll. Honestly, imagine Riding Around In My Automobile sang in a British accent. Wouldn't work.
Sorry, did I say The Crimea? Shit! I meant The Selecter. I have no idea why I said Crimea. Silly me....
