I hope that if you get hit by another hurricane this year, that all that live there and their safety are considered.

Most of the poor have already been displaced, so there will probably be no need to use the dome this time. And it's been rebuilt for media purposes. But your levees are not ready to withstand another huge storm.

I wish I trusted New Orlean's mayor more, but I don't trust him he's just a politician trying to promote himself at this point.

You all pulled together and helped each other last time, I hope you still have the strength to do that again if needed. And I hope you remember those that have been displaced and work towards ,making room for them once again in your community.

For the illegals hired to rebuild New Orleans, look after yourselves, because the government isn't going to.

This isn't an empty prayer or flag waving thing. I sincerely hope you don't have another levee break, or major catastrophe, but if you do I will support you and speak out.

And I for one support pet rescue. Many will deny rescue if not allowed to rescue their pets. I say rescue all. Fluffy is as important as the oil rigs. More so actually. I say let the oil companies pay for their own repairs out of their huge profits.

Nice thoughts but remember there were many, many Katrina victims outside of New Orleans... and Louisiana for that matter.

    Same's true for Rita.
    She got me...

That's true. Being in California I basically followed New Orleans, but Mississipi was hit and destroyed also. I haven't followed that story as much as I should have. Perhaps I should.

Our goverment used the tragedy to recruit bodies for Iraq:

Kind of shows you what the priorities were.

Better to have able bodies sitting on their asses while on the Public teat increasing the load on law enforcement?
Read the Houston Chronicle to see current problems w/the evacuees still hanging round here.

    Think about it...

The levees never broke until last year. And which neighborhood were destroyed?

So we have people evacuating to a safe place and that's where the recruiters swarm. So what does that say about our all volunteer army...it's that the majority join for lack of other employment chances. Why aren't they recruiting the children of the elite. Maybe because their parent's wouldn't agree to that.

It's nice to feel secure and above others. I hope you never have to feel vunerable.

My point is that only certain constituencies and interests seemed to have been worth saving.

And that our government instead of reaching out and helping was more busy recruiting bodies for their war.

I am not a troll this is a valid point which needs to be protested. Wave your flags, pray for the Katrina dead, but if you don't point out what is going wrong you are part of the problem.

Everyone is supposed to pray and light a candle for those lost, but we aren't supposed to think about what lead to their deaths.

I put up a flag after 09/11, but I took it down when it was obvious we were going into Iraq. I don't follow anyone blindly. I worry and pray for those that were lost and displaced during Katrina, but I will not make a hero out of our emergency systems. They failed. I would like to know why.

The oil companies have been rebuilt Trent Lott probably has a new porch to sit on drink lemonade, what about all those trying to make new lives in places that are foreign to them.

Based on your posts you appear to have little knowledge of situations
up and down the Gulf Coast
    resulting from the storms and
those that have been decades in the making
    .

    Once you research Louisiana's -

    • socioeconomic situation (with much federal assistance)
    • political graft/ corruption of government - primarily democrats (a blue state). Don't forget the Levee Board.
    • criminals/ criminal justice systems
    • geography
    • wetland raping cuz folks like yall don't want to drive for oil off your shoreline
for starters then you might be able to carry on a reasonably Intelligent conversation.

Regardless this is a different topic than the war
and should be in another thread unless you were trolling when you started this thread.

Tell us again you weren't/ aren't trolling.

Not when they went to the refugee centers and recruited for their war. The republicans brought the war into it then.

And there's as much graft in the republican party as there is the democrat.

But arguing about that didn't save the poor, old and weak that had to meet the might of Katrina. But it might in the future. And if the Republican's don't want the war brought into it, then don't try to harvest the poor communities for recruits. Have your sons and daughters sign up.

What do you think they said: "Sorry your Grandma died and house has been washed out sea but join up and fight in Iraq and we'll give you housing, clothing and a monthly pay check." They may have even promised college, but the GI bill has been so gutted I hope those young people don't count on it.

As for 911 I'll ask a simple question:

So you believe in maintaing the staus quo when it comes to welfare in New Orleans - doling out welfare money w/o the recipient having to work.

Cool... then you won't mind paying my share of the taxes supporting the deadbeats.

BTW Louisiana is prolly the most corrupt southern state and it's been a blue state for eons...

Are the oil companies paying the taxpayers back for the support they received, or even giving us break in prices?
