The secrets of 09/11 and JFK are hidden behind layers of red tape, but the story of Katrina is still fresh, and if we ask questions perhaps they will be answered.
Will the oil companies and merchants being subsidised repay us taxpayers, or are they also deadbeats. Where does the judgement lie?
You know better than that... *L* We the taxpayers will be reimbursed when pigs fly. The oil cos aren't deadbeats... they're astute business Folks w/many pols in their pockets. Actually the same can be said for most industries...
If you consider what they owe the federal government, they are by far bigger deadbeats than any individual. And they have the money to pay.
Yeah and the oil producing states (esp TX/ LA) have been paying more to the the feds than they receive back from DC all the time destroying our own habitat (esp wetlands) so the other states can have a source of fossil fuels NIMBY (not in my backyard).
Again the questions will be answered when pigs fly. Hurricane relief problems are related to very similar things as were JFK's murder/ 911.
I don't want them and their corruption off the coast of California. You guys can tolerate them there. I saw a tv program on how the oil companies have avoided paying taxes on what they have withdrawn from their locations, and because of lobbying they've gotten away with it. If they had paid what they should the states they are associated with could have provided some protection and infrastructure. But they were allowed to not remit. Reminds me of Enron's little game with California. We suffered and we are still trying to rebuild a viable energy/utility system with California. A few people became very rich and a lot of poor folks died, or went broke. Don't blame it on the little man. Take a good look at the huge corporations that are reaping huge profits.
Have those oil companies put some of their profits back into securing their own assests. Why should the taxpayers subsidise them?
One of my points exactly. Yall are one the MIMBY states that are screwing us over. If it were up to me all shipments from wherever would be halted into all NIMBY states until said states were producing as much oil as we are or max'ed out - whichever came first. I'm tired of paying the environmental costs while the balance of the country slides...
That's more bullshit. When's the last time you took a dump? *seriously* I should thank you for illustrating a previous point though...
California has lots of derricks and we used to have refineries, but the oil industry shut them down to manipulate their profits. Don't ask us to let drillers go off our shores, because I for one don't want them there. California's shores are one of the prettiest things on the world why should we let a corporation put them in threat? If Texas and Louisiana want to sell out that's their problem. The oil companies owe California royalties at the moment, why should we allow them more scope for abuse? Oil and energy companies are making record profits, but they are being exempted from paying their fair share, why is that?: http://www.californiachronicle.com/articles/viewArticle.asp?articleID=5852
Any wonder why I said this? You neglected to mention yall's state environmental laws. Far as I'm concerned yall can use your roads for hurricane victim trailer pads, vehicles for planters and just walk... Speaking of victims last I saw yall didn't take your fair share but that's not surprizing...
I want my state to protect the environment, wouldn't you like your's to do the same. We took in survivors. Was there a porportionate list somehere? I found it strange that Texas took in so many but then that's GW's state and maybe he was trying to mitigate his blame. How many did Illinois and Ohio, etc. take in? I think California footed more than their part of the bill under the Enron sh*t. Maybe you would have liked to see your energy bills increased 400% during one winter, while fat cats laughed about it and went on vacation.
I've seen hyrdoelectric plants closed down here in the eighties so the corporate elite could manipulate the flow of power. California has always been ahead of the rest of the states in power generation, but not when corporate offices manipulate the flow. We even had nuclear power generation plants before most of the other states.
Well the East coast will experience deregulation for real this winter. I hope they aren't taken advantage of the way Enron took advantage of California. Grey Davis wasn't responsible, the Bush administration were the ones that said that California would have to deal with their own problems, even though blatant corporate misconduct had been evidenced. Grey Davis was relected honestly, then the republican's mounted their cosy little special election. Why don't you folks in Texas elect the Governator...he doesn't actually know what he's doing he's puppeteered by the republican party. Texas does what the Bush administration and their ilk tell them to, don't try and come off as a more charitable state than any other in the US.
Anyone interested in the transcripts of the Enron tapes? http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/06/01/eveningnews/main620626.shtml or this: http://www.mapcruzin.com/news/news011901b.htm Want me to believe Texas is acting wholy in a purely charitable mode, think again.
