So, I may be 16

and that's usually a bit old to start, but.


My mom offered to pay for me to take fiddle lessons. I am so enthralled about this

She even said she'd buy me the fiddle.


Been wanting to learn since I was about 8... So this is cool.

So I can be a guitar-ukulele-fiddle-jew's harp player. And eventually dulcimer too. :H

 

Ahah... Those are such random instruments, but they're the most fun sounding.

 

For sure... I hope the fiddle goes well. Its effin' hard, I have SO much respect for those who can make the fiddle sound good

 

If you wanna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band.

 

you gotta make sure you get the right teacher or you're gonna learn vlassical violin and not the cool fiddle.

Well, the teacher would be my neighbour/drama&english teacher at school. I've known her my whole life and she's a swanky lady. She'll teach me how to fiddle. :H

When I think of Texas and fiddles, I think of Jerry Jeff Walker and his band. Particularly "¡Viva Terlingua!" Yeah I got ta get it out...

 

I think it'd be weird for me to live next door to any of my teachers, but good thing you get along...or so it seems

 

who cares about age, the fiddle is definitely something you could learn at retirement age

Oh my god... This woman is the coolest teacher alive though. She's like... an ex-coffeehouse bohemian-hippie type.. Her kids are all indie musicians who live in Maui and her husband is a folk singer.


She's a total pothead too. All the kids at school wanna chill with Mrs. Smith.

She makes really good salsa.

thats cool that you got a cool teacher "i had an english teacher who smoked pot and burnt incense in class", fiddle seems like it would be a fun instrument to learn to play, i just got a ukulele today and on tuesday im buying an acordian

 

Uke is pretty easy

once you get the hang of it, which takes no time at all.. baritone uke is really cool too, because its the same as the bottom four strings on a guitar.

what kinda uke did you get? just a normal soprano?

 

why's it called a jew harp anyway?
is it just really cheap or soemthing?

 

im not sure i think its just a normal soprano, the brand is mahalo, its real hawaian looking its painted totally white except the next, i want to paint some designs and flowers and such on it

 

how big is it? how many frets?


A Jew's harp .. its like.. a little metal thing that you put in your mouth and make funny shapes and twang the little bar.. its kinda..D-shaped...

learn fiddle then you can play for real... make sure you really learn how to improvise... not just imitate the tunes...
