Idk if this is where this post should be, but...does anybody know if it is legal to go to a public school outside of my school district? I want to go to a neighboring school district with all my friends cuase I live like right on the border. If this is possible...(it prolly depends on where you live and everything but) can anybody estimate how much this would cost? Thanks.
Of course it's legal. And it's free. You just have to choice over to the school district and hope they accept you. When I was looking at high schools I choiced into a neighboring district but decided not to attend school there.
How exactly would I go about "choicing over" to another school district. Send a letter or e-mail or something with a good reason of why I should be able to change or what?
You should call up the school you want to go to and ask them to send you everything you need. As far as I know, you don't really have to give a "good reason" for switching, but I guess it can't hurt.
I don't know for sure, but my mum said that in Missouri it doesn't work like that. Missouri has tons a calothic/private schools and a lot of the public schools are kinda crappy. Thats part of the reason I want to switch school districts, becuase I go to a calothic school right now but want to go to a public school except the school district I live in sucks and the neighboring one is better plus all my friends go there. She had a good point: If you can just switch no problem then wouldn't a lot of people send their kids to the better public schools and not just the crappy one you live by? She says you have to pay and that she will not pay for me to go to a public school no matter what, I even offered to get a job and pay for it but she won't have any of it. Idk but my friend says lots of people just give the school a friends address and it works out fine. Anybody live in Missouri or know anything that might help me out a lil?
Giving a friend's address is illegal. Here in Ohio there are a number of people who have given a relative's address or a friend's address and have been kicked out of their school and fined because of such things. It may work out fine for a while, but there's no guarantee you won't get caught.
You wouldn't contact the school directly, you'd contact your local Board of Education, and explain to them how you live on the boarder of two districts, and say that you and your parents would prefer that you attend the school you want. It's public school, you won't have to pay anything extra... that's what taxes are for But, you may have to find a way to get there, because the district may not offer transportation to the specific section of town you live in. Good luck.
I can drive myself there cuase I drive myself to school now and my school is 15 min. away. This public school is 5 minutes away. I still gotta talk my parents into letting me go before I actually ask to be switched. Thanks everyone.
