hey guys. im a little worried. I got some plants in buckets and some in the ground. the ones in the ground are covered by a 1/2-1 inch puddle of water sitting there. i hope it stops raining. is there anything i can do to prevent root rot or any other problems that can arrive from soggy soil...? or do i have to just wait it out and hope for the sun to pop up? thanks alot guys. do any of u guys have the same problem (i know someone in the Ne does lol)
While it's raining you can cover the soil around the plant with a garbage bag or piece of plastic. Wrap it around the base of the plant and outwards in like a tent shape. IMPORTANT--As soon as it stops raining remove it, so the soil can dry out.
thanks buddy. can it be done if the soil is already drenched? i think it might stop raining soon, but is it worth still doing it? maybe i shouldnt so that it can start to dry
take a hoe or an E-tool and cut a small drainage trench away from the plant. Just enough for the puddle to drain away. Next time don't plant in a low spot.
thanks buddy. do i simply take the ho and make a drench jus away from the plant? or do i make like a circle trench around the plant so that the plant is on a hill like thing? i guess just making a trench away from the plant is good enough...thanks alot.
Either way is fine. The main thing is don't dig any deeper than you have to. You're just trying to drain the surface - you don't want to cause soil erosion. Just determine the lay of the land so you are sure that the water is being led away to a lower point. You can just use a corner of the hoe to cut a little "vee" shaped trench. The less digging the better!!!
