i think anyone whos read a page (or a sentence for that matter) from the bible can tell the book is either packed with metaphors or was the original script for the passion of the christ iv read my share of books about enslaved societies and anti individuality dictators so i guess i get a little too carried away when it comes to things like this but i cant stand hearing "ate from the tree of knowledge" and seeing a guy pick a apple from a tree when i hear that i always think of a man(adam) who was tricked by a snake(curiosity)into eating an apple(reading a book)from the tree of knowledge..... this seems like a kind of stretch seeing as how the words from the bible are presumably thousands of years old or hundreds or w/e but bare with me god or this godlike figure had brainwashed these men into thinking that he was omnipotent and that they should stay stupid so he can minipulate them ect and told them not to search for any means of producing intelect just an idea i got from a book........ http://www.worldwideschool.org/library/books/lit/socialcommentary/Anthem/chap1.html i think occam would like this book......the word i is used like 3 times ok il go back to the conspiracy forums now........
heeh2 What...occams razor? LOL All things being equal..the simplest answer is most likely correct. In the reality of deterministic forces mater, energy, space, time and biosheres driven by 'natural selection' then occams razor mostly holds true In the human world of irrational psychosis driven agendas and insane premis. The children of ignorance and fear. it mostly does not. Occam
'For every problem there is a solution that is simple, clear, and wrong.' H.L.Mencken Nothing is impossible. But, of course, I am a huge fan of Occams razor. It is a handy bit of info to know. Saves a lot of time in the workplace troubleshooting and fixing things. If your car just stops on the road, don't start to pull out engine parts right away, check the gas first.
well you know what i think about that. those appearant contradictions are deliberate to make the point that what is being said is being said aligoricly and not to be taken too litteraly. for a reason their authors realized but for some bone headed reason most fanatics refuse to. that the meaning of words drift and if you want to convey a message beyond where word drift would scramble it completely the only way to do so IS aligoricly. and that is the case with religeos writings in general and not just christian. attempts have been made to freeze languages like latin. but then people just stop using them and whatever is preserved in them still needs to be translated back into something that they do. and when meaning has already been mangled before being frozen in dead language there is a certain futility to the whole proccess. =^^= .../\...
In the same vein, when religous events ( events in the life or lives of individuals that defy explanation(s) within the existing culture or technology) become frozen into religions then the meaning is lost. Most religious events are experiences that defy explanation or understanding. Most religions are standardized futile attempts at explaning the unexplanable. As an example only...not a theory or belief just an example. We are four dimensional beings (three spatial dimensions plus time). If a fifth dimensional experience occured it would most likely be sensed by some mechanism other than our four dimensional specific sense organs. The experience would most likely be internalized or experienced in the mind due to the failings of our four dimensional sense organs and not outwardly...therefore to any bystander it would appear as if the individual had an hallucinigenic experience. How would you prove that it was not such???
Occams Razor is a useful tool in philosophy but the idea that the simplest answer is most likely to be the one that is true is blatantly wrong. Since it allows for the possibility that a theory might be too complex for us to understand and yet is true. Just because a theory is complex does not mean it is false and just because we do not understand a theory does not mean it is most likely false. That is not to discredit the entirety of Occams razor but to just point out that somethimes the conclusions he and others draw from it are discredited by better scientific methodology, while the basic tennets such as "do not multiply entities beyond necessity" are taken as the core basics of good scientific enquiry.
Exactly Occams razor..It means ..reduce the superflous or non essential entities in any theory. So for example...Many scientists talk about reality having a beginning and an end. [and all religions do] This is an unwarrranted entity based in human psychosis. Occam believes reality has no beginning or end. This is the simplest answer. It removes ALL questions of causality. And why not...Just because is 'seems' causality is a law OF reality. Does not mean that law applies to reality itself. And no can in any way show otherwise. Thus occams razor..in one swift cut..resolves the age old question of where everything came from. It simply cuts a way an unwarranted human preconception of no validity. Occam PS..you say it doesnt apply cause the answer may be too complex.. FOR WHOM? For human beings of say 2520ad..what we call too complex may be simple. And thus 'to complex' is a variable dependent on human undersatnding. And invalidates the 'principle of parsimony' not at all.
my sentiments exactly. on each of those quoted counts. and as for proving anything was not a 'mere' hallucination, well of course there's no proving, only what your gut tells if it's you having the experience. someone else's there's really no way to judge at all. for that matter, how 'mere' are hallucinations? they may usualy or often be other then they appear to be. but "other then" is only a small limit in a wide, and possibly infinite, range. =^^= .../\...
heeh2 I preferred "The Life of Brian" To either of these two - it was much funnier and much more believable with an original script. Even the Bible is mainly a plagiarism of the life of Dionysus (Greek God of Wine).
Must agree The part where he had nothing to say..was a classic.from that point on his word was law. And he RAN FROM IT. Brilliant. Organised religion is just too stupid to be believed. Christ NEVER took a shit on the roadside.Never cracked a dubious joke.Never looked at a woman with lust..HAHAHHHHAHHAAA Occam
