My periods only came back after I started on the pill, post-depo. Its a risk when you start taking it, that it can take something like up to two years for your period to come back, after youre off of it. Yknow, sideaffects and all that crap that youre supposed to read up on before starting a medication.

what pill are you on? i don't really want my periods to come back but i don't want anything to go wrong down there eiether. cancer runs in my family very highly. one of my sisters actually has problems down there already due to her uneven flow.

Im on Alesse, I like it... fairly low dose, monophasic so it doesnt increase yoru chance of eyast infections relalys trongly (which tricyclen did for me, but thats me). Relaly there are so many brands out ther eits best to talk with the doc whos prescribing it to you, to figure out which one might be best

i will certainly talk to my doc first but i will bring up alesse, i'll tell her a friend recommended it. i haven't been to the doc in forever, she might actually be upset because i didn't get it checked out sooner. i have to go to planned parent hood though because i can't afford to go to a regular nurse. i don't know if you have one of those in your area but it's nice because they take donations instead of charging you for full. at first i felt really bad because i'm sure so many people come in there and only donate like $5 for a $150 visit. then someone told me that the government pays for it so it doesn't matter in the slightest.

depo-provera can stay in your system a very long time. Sometimes the effects are permanent. You should have been fully informed of the risks before agreeing to take it. I wouldn't recommend ever resorting to more hormone meds, seeing as how you've reacted so strongly to that one. do your own homework, research the drug and its side effects for yourself. Never rely upon a doctor or nurse or internet message forum to inform you. Not only is DP a very strong, very scary medication, it was unethically tested upon women in third-world countries before they knew the correct dosage or if it were safe to use at all. Most of those women are now permanently infertile as a result.

the only thing my doctor told me was that i should drink lots of milk or take calcium vitamins. they told me that depo provera was the safest kind of birth control on the market at that time and that it also helped prevent any kind of uterus cancer. they made it seem like the only problem i'd ever have with it is bone loss. they knew cancer was in my family history and that one of my immediate family members had problems concieving a child, i hope they weren't so ignorant to not tell me that i might have some problems ahead.

Yeah, it can permanently reduce fertility for some women. Nto necessarily will never have kids, totally infertile, just... reduced chances of having kids even ten years downt eh road, it looks like at least. It does lead to bone density loss, so calcium is a good idea (hell, calcium is always a good idea, strong bones are good bones).

I have no clue about paying for appointments, I live in Canuckia where the govt health system pays for stuff until it collapses in on itself.

I dunno about not taking other hormone based pills though. I mean, the only ways I reacted to depo where it took a while for my period to come back and I gained a bunch of weight, I woudlnt call that "strongly reacting" inasmuch as its a fairly normal reaction, particularly the period problems. The pill helped them come back (albeit pill induced ones not totally natural ones), but then again I -REALLY- didnt want to not be on some form of birth control. Paranoid.

i will just have to have a nice long talk with the nurse and see what the heck i should do and what i have ahead of me. i've never been a huge fan of milk, only in my cereal so i bought some calcium vitamins but i always forgot to take them. i never got a bone density test done, the nurse there said it was extremely expensive, that's about when i gave up on the shots.

I was on the depo shot for almost 8yrs I suppose. I went on it when I was about 15 because I seen my best friend get pregnant and didnt want anythin like that to me. I didnt realize till after I kept tryin for years and years to take off weight how hard it was. No matter what I tried. I gained alot when I first went on the depo. I didnt figure this out till later on though. I would usually get the shot durin my period and wouldnt get my period for 3months. Thats a long time which was great for me it seemed at the time. I tried the pill and I took 2 of the entire 28 day tablets for me and had my period for 56 days and was like WTF. I didnt want to take the pill so the only thing left for me it seemed was the shot. They didnt have the nuvea ring out yet nor the patch. BUt you have to be under 200lbs for both of these and I am over that. I dont think they consider height in this though. I wouldnt recommend the shot though myself. I gained a lot bc of it and I felt very moody a lot of the time. Im still not sure if it messed up my fertility. Its now been 2yrs that I have been off of the depo shot. Do your reasearch. The only thing the doc told me was that bc I was smoker it could lead to blood clots or somethin like that.
