with parents dog..... well first thing you need to know is he is going to be 17 soon, so he is quite old..... he tends to piss on the carpet when people are around...... we think it may be jealousy or he is nervous.... my parents say he hardly does that, but when Im in the house, he pisses on the floor more often. he always does it when a stranger is in the house. we think he does it for attention. either that or he is getting senile.... we take him in and out of the house all of the time..... yet, he doesnt seem to go out there........he pisses on the carpet..... and my mom is getting mad because the place is starting to smell like dog piss, and she has to steamclean those spots..... last night she yelled at smokey and said "you better be careful, we may have you taken care of" yikes mom

anyone know what the problem could be?? could it be just old age??

Yeah it could be a uti. But also with his age it might be harder for him to control it. That's the issue with my gramps' dog. She pisses on stuff and you can tell she doesn't mean to.

well, I think he is just getting old. and when it happens, he realizes he did something wrong...... last night, I caught him in the hallway, and I pushed on his back end with my foot...... it wasnt hard, just to get him to stop, you know?? and he dropped his head and tried to run off, but I grabbed him by the collar and dragged him outside :(

and just earlier, as my dad and I went to get some food, we got back and noticed he pissed right in the entranceway from the living room to the kitchen. dad found it, and I was in the kitchen, and smokey was wandering around in the kitchen, and headed towards the back door with his head down........ and stood in front of the door....... he knows he is doing something wrong.

Well what I think is... your parents (or you, who ever) should probably have him checked by a vet to make sure it's not a uti (or something else, maybe another kind of infection)- however since Smokey IS seventeen years old (that's reallllly old for a dog), most likely it probably is just because of his age. He knows he's not supposed to pee in the house but probably just doesn't have the control anymore.

Anyways yeah that was pretty mean of your mom to say. At least animals cant understand words though. ;)

My mom has a lot of old animals in her house. Man, I was house sitting for a week a couple of months back. Her dog collapsed in the kitchen, we had to take it into the vet, and they put it to sleep. This was a couple of days after I found one of her cats dead in the bathroom. What a sucky week for having to house set. The cat was like 17 years old, and the dog was about the same. It was just time for them to go, but it just had to be that week. Oh well. They funny thing is, they still ask me to house set. I was hoping that they wouldn't want me to.

We had a dog for about that many years. A man came to our house and told us he'd accidentally run the dog over but could not find him because he ran away in the night.
We found the dog lying in a field behind our home very much alive just injured. His trip to the vet required surgery to repair his intestines which had been separated inside his body. He also suffered a hip injury making him unable to walk. After the surgery, the vet told us to keep him indoors to recooperate. He urinated all over the carpet in the laundry room and I shampooed the area three times to no avail.
After he was able to walk, my bro put him back outside. About two weeks later, he disappeared. No pound had picked him up.
The pound knew me from one time before when I had to go and bail him out, so when I called them they told me sorry, we don't have him here.
He never turned up again after that. He will be missed.

yeah, I think some animals do that........ they know its their time to go, so they go...... and never come back. Id rather see that happen to smokey, when its his time to go........ but we still put him on a chain when he goes outside. why? Im not sure...... he wont run anywhere.......

I feel so bad because my brother had this dog since he was about 8 yrs old and he is now 26. The dog disappeared for good about two yrs ago and my four year old niece still talks about wanting him to come home.
I didn't think she would remember him since she was about two when he left.
