romas are the traditional italian canning tomatoe,,not a lot of water to them mostly flesh.. thats probably why they were bought by his mom in bulk.. still snickerin over them bein called a plum mater tho.. never heard that..
Around here we have two different types of tomatoes that look like that... roma and plum. They are similar but not the same.
i dunno,, all i ever seen is romas that look like that.. ive been wrong before,so the only one that knows fer sure is the one who bought them huh??
just as i suspected... http://www.bettycrocker.com/allabout/glossary/glossp.asp?gid=40635 Tomatoes, Roma (Plum) Red or yellow, oblong tomatoes originally from Italy. Known for their meaty texture, they are the most suitable tomatoes for sauces, having the lowest acidity, most pulp and fewest seeds of all tomatoes.
hippiehillbilly, While the term tomato (meaning girl) is antiquated, I think the poster was just joking around by using an old outdated term. Hotwater
People that grow tomatoes have lots and lots and lots, its good for sorry fucks like me who dont have a garden casue a few old timers are more than happy to share most anyting they grow, it makes folks happy and the grower proud. And even the folks around here that sell them, sell them so cheap its obvious they are not in it for the money.
Roma tomatoes fool. My city is flooded with organic tomatoes in summer because of our climate, we sun-dry them, make huge pots of spaghetti bolognese and last year i even made tomato sauce, which you guys call ketchup.
Its nice, and yeaah, the tomatoes are awesome. But you might get sick of it after a while, its really dry and dusty, the grass is only green for about 4 months a year, the trees are all crooked and raggedy, it doesn't snow, and for most of the summer you can't go outside without being fried to death. Beautiful in its own strange sort of way, but I would love to walk through a beautiful canadian forest, go skiing and get crazy drunk and stoned (legally) with a bunch of mad canadians.
god bless tomatoes, peppers n cukes and to think as many have been given away and again as many eatten fresh... yum!
yea they're romas. i made a tomatoe soup with some, and my mom made a batch of chilli sauce. she made regular chilli with canned stuff yesterday, and comes home with the fresh ones today...wouldnt it have made more sense to wiat to make the chilli untill you had the giant box of fresh ones? as far as the garden thing is concerned we have about 10 tomatoe plants but for some reason this year they barely produced 5 each.. and nimh whos cilli recipie do you want?
any decent tomato within my reach will be summarily eaten. they never make it to the canning process, and if i want sauce, i used canned, because it is absolutely impossible for me NOT to eat a tomato with every meal if they're available. i'm like that with bell peppers, too.
