    Hi!

I just recently found this forum and have been having a blast reading everyone's posts and figured it's about time I introduce myself and ask a question I've been dieing to ask!

So I've had my dreads for 3 and a half years come November and have never questioned my decision to get em. I love them to death and couldn't be happier with my hair. So... I had super crazy fine, thin, poker straight hair when I dreaded them and only waxed them the day they were made and never again. (Seems like that was a good move on my part after reading all the stuff about wax on here... yikes) Anyhoo, my hair basically dreaded itself just with me palm rolling it and doing the roots every now and then (mostly while in lecture to keep myself awake - buahahaha!)

So anyway, my question is this - I've got these "bald" spots where the dreads were originally sectioned off 3 years ago and cannot for the life of me get them to go away! I've never seen another dreadhead out there with these "empty" spots... so it's making me feel like a freak LOL.... Is it just cause my hair is so insanly fine that I'll never be able to get them to go away? Any suggestions to fill em in out there? Here's a few pics of my babies:

Weird "bald" patches.... not too attractive, eh?

Can't wait to hear if there's any help for them roots.

    Thanks!

sweet dreadies sister, .. awesome!!!,,,, i have a couple of "those spots"... one in particular... for me i think its just cuz my hair lays rather funky and leaves gaps and my hair is very grey that is growing in and looks a bit odd,, i gave up the dyes about 3 months before dreading it....

i am a figgerin that when my hair grows a bit the short munchkins at the top and front will cover up "those spots" if not maybe a bit of majick marker... ;)[IMG]... so you arent alone with your question here, i was wondering same thing today bouncing down the road n pondering sewing loosies in...:)

You are damn good lookin. and u have sweet hair. I wouldnt worry about the "spots". i dont even know what u could do to fix them. Cuz its always going to make a part/split/bald spot where the hair goes diff. directions. You could take a sharpie and color your scalp!!!! just jokin on the last part..

what you could seriously do, if you are severely worried about it, is to stop maintaining your roots. Your hair would grow longer before it was dreaded, and the sections would become much less defined.

This may not be an attractive option, but I really don't see a problem with a couple of those spots. If you look at the pictures in my thread, I have them too. =)

i have one of those spots around one dread. it may be because your roots and dreads are so tight near to the scalp and you dont have any loose hairs to cover the spots like most!

I agree too - If you want to keep the well-manicured look at the roots, the spots will still show, because your hair is thin and is parting so drastically right there. If you "let it go" just a little bit, those spaces will become less defined and obvious, but you'll have to start tearing the dreads apart at the roots on occasion.

    They are beautful though! :)

    Hi!

Thanks so much for the comments and thoughts! Everyone's photos I've seen are awesome. I'm starting to think the magic marker will be my savior though... Joking! ;)

I actually only do my roots at the front every 2 months - in those pics I hadn't done em for 7 weeks. I guess I'll just have to deal with em or tattoo my scalp.. one or the other. Like I said - my hair is ridiculously fine - basically, my roots do themselves and the upkeep I actually do is on the ones in front near my bangs, I never touch the rest. When I had my hair straight I'd have those empty spots, too... guess that's how they wanna be! I've never had to touch any root other than the 5 right in front. Stupid thin hair.

Nice to see I'm not the only one with them - makes me feel better, even though I really had to search to find them in your pics, dilligaf and HavePatience! :p

It don't mattter, mama. You're beautiful! I have a "bald" spot in the back of my head where two dreadies congo'd up PHUNKY, and I didn't/don't have a dread there. I just threw in a wrap thang, and it looks a lot more even now.

And if you're really that self-concious about them, wear a tam!

Ha, yeah you a good lookin cat. Anyways, I was wondering if you do anything to maintain your dreads besides palm rolling. I saw you said your roots do themselves, so I guess you do nothing. You don't have loose hairs and frizz? You crotchet them back in?

About the bald spot thing, it's just like people who get braids and salon twists. It's because you got tight clean roots. The only things to do are either loosen your roots which probably isn't possible or too good of an idea, or you could cover the baldness with new dreads or the hair there. If you dread the front, it would probably cover it but youd see the sectioning in the front. But I like your dreads alot, they got alot of character while being neat. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks! As for maintainence, no, I don't do much of anything. Every 2 months or so I do the clockwise rub on the 5 roots in front since those are the only ones that don't do themselves (guess cause of the normal shampoo and water for the bangs?) I wash em twice a week with Knotty Boy bar soap, let them air dry, and use a peppermint and tea tree oil spray on their entire length once a week to keep em moisturized. I can't find any loose hairs at the roots anywhere and I assume that's cause my hair is so thin. When it was straight I had some awful knots if I hadn't brushed it for a day. I have to pin my bangs out of the way when I sleep or else wake up to my dreads eating them. They've already devoured about half of what used to be bangs in the past 3 years. Hahaha...

I used to palm roll them a year and a half ago, but once I left college I just forgot to do em, and haven't had to at all since. So I palm rolled for a year and a half and they've gone to their own devices for the same amount of time. As for crocheting... I've heard of it, but haven't a clue what that means! Hahaha!
