Well it's great to see this place really taking off and coming alive again. It's great to see so many new faces on here and so many old ones back from the ether. I've realised how much I missed all this. And since this forum's becoming more active again, I thought we could do with a few new tweaks and features to help it really grow into a strong community site, with a distinct and independent flavour to the rest of Hipforums. Well, we are British after all!

First up, there's the new UK Calendar. Anyone can post events to the calendar - it's all pretty self explanatory, even for the most technophobic among us. No hard and fast rules on what should be posted, just a couple of guidelines:

    1) All birthdays, of everyone on the site, are automatically listed on the calendar, so there's no need to add them.

    2) Try to post events that are largely in the public interest and that all members might want or be able to attend. Thinks like protests, festivals, major gigs, raves, free parties, special public days, gatherings, Hipforums meet-ups and other events that are of particular interest to members here and to the wider counter culture movements.

    3) When posting events it's good to give a reasonable amount of information: date, time, location, short description, website for further info and any vital contact details.

Any other guidelines people think might be sensible, I'm open to suggestions.

Secondly, what do people think to the idea of a UK Chat room? We've all toyed with it in the past, but have never got round to doing much about it. If there's enough support for one, then we can get it sorted out.

Last but not least, sub-forums. I've moved all the threads out of UK Polls and into the main forum, and knocked it on the head since it had never been terribly popular. Instead, as this place grows, we should think of new sub-forums that suit its needs. Course, there probably shouldn't be too many, no need to make the forums too big and nebulous, but we can play it by ear. What do people want to see? If you have any suggestions, post them here and we can work out what might be a good idea to put in.

    Peace,
    Peace Phoenix

At long last, UK Filthiness is back! Check it out:

    http://www.hipforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=197

PooBrain and Samhain will be stirring things up over there.

And UK Music has a new mod - Flowerchild17. For those of you who know Sarah, she's the biggest music geek in the world, and I reckon her knowledge and talents should be a big boost to that forum. Ok, she's American, but we can't hold that against her!

Again, if anyone has any ideas for new forums, please post them here and we'll see what we can do.

In the meantime, enjoy getting filthy!

How about a UK specific Films and TV subforum? (Not "movies", they're called "films" ... we're British[IMG])

(I mean the forum is UK-specific, not necessarily the films and TV, you realised that didn't you[IMG])

That's a good idea, who else is up for it? If there's enough support for it I reckon it might be worthwhile. If not many people are interested, then we can always wait until this place is busier before setting it up. But I'm in favour of it.

Film and TV seems to be taking off very well, you're all a load of closet film geeks! :p Any other good suggestions? I know Chris suggested a UK politics forum, but I'd be wary of taking too much content out of the main UK Forum. If the big issues, like politics/philosophy/debates etc are kept to the main UK forum, then they're given mainstream billing. Instead, are their any other niche/specialist forums people want to see? Would a UK Drugs/Psychedelics forum be a good idea?

I did wonder about a books / literature forum - didn't there used to be one back in the day? Not sure how much demand there would be for that:)

We could always change Arts and Crafts into an all purpose arts and literature forum? Might shake it up a bit?

One of the few rats never to abandon the ship, he's certainly helped make it float again. Jonny2Mad is the new mod over at UK Member Photos, hopefully he'll help get that forum going again :)

UK is now listed as one of the featured forums at http://www.hippy.com/ . Not only does this reflect our position as the largest and closest community on Hipforums, but with any luck it should point a few more Brits in our direction :)
