You can't have a folk music forum without mentioning John Prine. In my opinion he's one of the top 5 folk musicians to ever live. He sings songs that cover every subject under the sun and above the stars..... Any other prine lovers out there?
I went to last years Bonnaroo festival and got a chance to see John Prine live! The most entertaining show of the entire weekend imho. He pulled out all of the old gems and thru in a few from his latest album. He has had a pretty rough time of it with a variety of illnesses, but he was in fine voice that day. A true folk entertainer.
My daughter and I caught Prines concert in Kentucky last year. It was one of those concerts I "had" to see.You could tell the cancer had taken its toll on his voice, but with Prine, anything audible is fantastic. The greatest thing was looking back(we had front seats!!)and noticing that the audience was ranging from young teens to people like myself,in their 50s to 60s. It was great! Anyone whos been wanting to see him, dont put it off! You'll hate yourself if you do.
I agree his voice is not the same, but his ability to captivate your ears with his lyrics has never left. Aslong as he's making music, i'm gonna listen. People ask me what my favorite prine song is.... How can you answer that??
Given my proclivity for my "green" medicine, I can answer that one with "Illegal Smile"! Peace...j.b.
they had amazing 2hr show the other day on MPR with prine.. talking about his music and such.. it was great
