    hi, i have a question.
i've been on the pill for many years. i used to go to an ob/gyn a long time ago, but then i left my job and lost my insurance. so at that point i switched to a Planned Parenthood clinic, where i got free annual exams and pills. they would give me a prescription for a year's worth of pills, and i'd go back every year and get an exam and new prescription.

well, now i have insurance again....and i went back to an ob/gyn for an exam and prescription....well, they only gave me a 6 month prescription, and when it ran out i called them, and they said i have to come in for a "6 month checkup" to get new pills.

has anyone ever had to do this, or is this office just trying to get extra $$ from me and my ins co? it still costs me $100 for an annual, and i'm sure this "checkup" will cost no less than $50. it sounds strange to me....i think when i FIRST went on the pill (10+ years ago) they made me come in for an extra check up....but this just seems obnoxious.

my appt is wed. i tried to call them, but their "business office" is closed, and i would have to call tomorrow b/w 9am - 5pm. they are a large office with many drs, and i'm thinkin maybe i should just call a single-dr office and find out what the deal is....

just wanted to see what you all had to say about it before i cancel my appt. i have a week to get a new prescription before my next cycle.

    peace.

You are paying them for a service and theyre not giving it to you. Make a fuss.

I went in and asked for a yearly perscription for the pill, and the fucking cow only gave me 3 months! ARGH! Which meant i had to go BACK and get another one at my expense

I'd stick with PP....why keep up with the headache of a dr/insurer not listening to you/sticking you for more money.

i wish i could stick with PP. i loved them there. they would even call in an extra month or 2 of pills if i couldn't come for my annual on time, whereas my dr said NO, you have to come in for a 6 mo checkup!
the prob there, is now that i have health insurance, they can't cover me for free, or even for cheap. and it would cost MORE than the dr.

isn't it crazy how this country doesn't take care of its own people's health?!!?

    peace.

i go to a pp clinic and they only give me a months worth at a time but they only charge me $15. plus i dont have to go through the pain in the ass process of waiting an hour to get my presciption filled.

That really sucks for you. I went through the same thing when I got this job I have now. I had previously liked Planned Parenthood, but when I was looking at $15 vs. $75 for that pap smear, El Greedo reared his head. Sixty bucks was a lot of money. Still is. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably look for a new gyn. Unless you are unusually attached to this one, you can probably find a gyn who doesn't require you to come in every six months with a few phone calls. You might also call your insurance company about this dude. They might want to know what his policies are.

    ok. i feel stupid.
i called the dr and asked why they were having me in for a 6 mo exam, as i'd been on the pill for years, etc.....
she said that's what they do now....every 6 months, and they'll do everything but a pap.
so i basically told her that i feel they are ripping me off, and please cancel my appt, i'm gonna go to a different dr. she said they're all gonna do the same thing, and i said i don't think so.

so i called 2 other drs on my plan, who said, yes, they will have me come in every 6 months. DOH! so, now i have to re-make the appt w/the original dr, or i'll have to go for a FULL exam now, with a new doc, and then a check up in 6 months!

how embarassing, although i still feel it's a crock of shit.

    peace.

My doctor gives me 6 months worth of prescription whenever I see her, but once my prescription's done all I have to do is have the pharmacist call my doctor's office for a refill. I only have to go for a check up once a year. There's really no reason imho to go in every 6 months. It's just a waste of money. Keep looking and asking around.
