I was driving down the road yesterday, and a dog ran out in front of the truck. I stopped and called it, and it came to me. It is a little underweight, and has the attitude and markings of a not well cared for dog/puppy. I put it in my truck and took it home. My in laws, that live in the area, came to visit later on in the day. They asked where the dog came from, and I explained the events that had prviously occured, and they stated that it probably came from some guy that lives off the highway, who breeds this type of dog. They said that this person doesn't take care of their dogs, and that a couple of them had already been run over on the highway in the last few months. They said the guy neglects them and breeds them just to breed them. I feel compeled to not give the dog back. Tomorrow I am going to give it to someone from my school. I feel that I am saving the animal from an abusive life, but on the same hand I know that it is kinda stealing, but kinda not. I did find it running on the highway, and if I hadn't stopped for it, it probably would've gotten run over. What is your opinion?

You did the right thing in my opinion. If people don't have the capacity for responsibility to take care of thier pets they don't deserve them.

Key word here: Most likely belongs to him. I'd try to figure it out if you can. If it does I agree that the dog deserves a better home. If it's some kids dog, I say give it back. If you can't figure it out then obviously assume it was the mean mans dog and give it to a better owner.

That's the same thing the pound does, right? And it's legal for them to, so why shouldn't you? If the thing is malnourished, he needs a good home anyway. I see no moral issues there.

I'm an animal lover, and hearing about animals getting treated that way absolutely sickens me. So stealing or not, I feel that you did the right thing in rescuing the puppy from the situation that it was in.
