Is there any good Vegan cheeses? I have been vegetarian for some time now but trying to go vegan. I have given up dairy for the most part except cheese, specifically for pizza. I got to have pizza. All the cheese alternatives I can find still have milk protein in them.

i havent been able to find anything that doesnt have casein in it. or a multitude of strange chemicals

the best solution i've come up with for pizza is a nutritional yeast sauce. it's got some nice zang, but the mouthfeel definitely isnt cheese.

ps, try making pizza without gluten, too! there's a challenge. :p

THERE IS GOOD VEGAN CHEESE OUT THERE!

I have seen it! I can't remember what it's called for the life of me, but it DOES EXIST!

Here me all ye vegans and non-lacto-vegetarians! It comes in a variety of flavours (American, Swiss, even "Nacho") and it melts! It even melts!

If I remember what it's called I will let you know!

Edit: But if the entire reason why you still eat cheese is pizza and pizza alone, behold, call up Domino's and tell them not to put cheese on it.

Pizza without cheese is actually very tasty. :)

Yummy vegan cheese? Yeah, I haven't found it either.

But cheese-less pizzas? Mmm, yup! Amy's makes a really awesome cheese-free frozen pizza too. It's got onion's, peppers & artichoke heart on it :)
    love,
    mom

Thanks for the replies. Hikaru Zero, be sure to post the cheese if you find it.

I was thinking about trying pizza without cheese. It sounds strange but it could work. I guess it will have to work. I was also thinking about making calzones so it would not look so naked. lol

LOL That would be a challenge.

oh how funny... I just posted a recipe for vegetarian pizza, and I hadnt seen your thread till I was finished.

Anyways the recipe I posted called for an "almond cheese" .... I'll have to check with my sister and see if that is what they top the pizzas with at the buffet. The buffet bases their foods on the recipe ... but sometimes they alter it. If the almond cheese is indeed what was on the pizza when I ate it, well, it is quite tasty and has an interesting cheeselike texture! Ill have to ask her to be sure.

Thank you for sharing. It sounds good. [IMG] I have never seen almond cheese before though. I will have to do some searching.
