So, my computers hard drive crashed a while ago (just died, overuse I guess), I was running off an external hard drive for a while before getting a new internal hard drive (Dell laptop, inspiron 600m) The new hard drive is twice as big as the old one. Yet games, even older games like NWN, run fine for a while then suddenly get super slow and chunky. NWN should not be running slow on my computer. I upgraded it to have a gig of ram, it already has a nice video chip in it (yes i updated the drivers for it), it has a 1300mhz processor... Any ideas on how to improve it's speed, make it regularly run nice and fast? I'm gonna hassle the guy who popped in the new hard drive and installed windows xp for me, but he doesn't always have a ton of free time.
thnx for the link. its a community thing so here if ya dont got it...: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=91993&package_id=97123 its a binary that you dont have to install. one of those...
Doesnt sound like a hard drive problem sounds more like a paging or memory problem best way to check while xp is running press control-alt-delete and see what processes are running and which is using the most memory its a software thing, a services thing, or a memory prob
Sorry, to clarify, I'm running off XP now, not Linux I do get the task manager thing and look, the only things that run and use a lot of memory are the program in question, explorer.exe and svchost.exe
Yeah man, cube is funky! Sorry ihmurria, yeah, you may need to find a 3rd party application to free your memory. I used to use "memturbo" but there may be better stuff these days. Maybe this thingy?
