I've been painting a new painting, of my recently deceased uncle who was like my second father. In a small chunk of the painting I want to put a quote/saying, perhaps buddhist. I was wondering if anyone knew a good one? I don;t want it to be a downer quote about death itself but more about life, or one's self, just good & positive, My uncle was semi-buddhist and would definitely appreciate it! Thanks a billion!
On life's journey Faith is nourishment, Virtuous deeds are a shelter, Wisdom is the light by day and Right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life nothing can destroy him; If he has conquered greed nothing can limit his freedom. http://festivals.iloveindia.com/buddha-purnima/buddha-quote.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Neither from itself nor from another, Nor from both, Nor without a cause, Does anything whatever, anywhere arise.” http://thinkexist.com/quotations/buddhism/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- google "buddhist quotes" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For you, "If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people. To be born means that something which did not exist comes into existence. But the day we are "born" is not our beginning. It is a day of continuation. http://member.melbpc.org.au/~grjallen/buddha.htm
When asked by someone what the Buddha taught Ananda said OM YE DHARMA HETU PRABHAVA HETUN TESHAN TATHAGATO HYAVADAT TESHAÑ CHA YO NIRODHA EVAM VADI MAHA SHRAMANA YE SVAHA This is called the Heart of Dependent Origination Mantra. Ananda said, That which has a cause will also cease, but that which has no cause will never cease. Thus this is the essence of all that Buddha taught. It could be said that which has no cause is the awareness in the state of samadhi, while all else is fluctuating and thus given to arising and departing.
Thanks guys! You were all really helpful. I am definitely going to hold onto these for the future! I did decide on something; my uncle had it on his mirror as a life goal he wanted to obtain: "ImpartialNon-JudgementalCompassionateQuiet Mind" I hope this can examplify him & show that he truly did obtain this.
Some quotes I like: "My religion is kindness." - the Dalai Lama "Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else. You are the one getting burned." - the Buddha
