Oh man... Thats really shocking... Does anyone know the reason for the shooting? Also i hope a guy a know who went to montreal for school is fine...
my friend goes to dawson college and i've been trying to get ahold of him and his family but no luck yet
oh man i hope your friend is okay i have family in montreal but no one goes to dawson... god thats horrible and i was thinking of going to school in montreal too man thats such a trip, thats so horrible...
You can't blame guns. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. I would assume that this gunman had some issues.
canada has strong gun laws. it just isn't helping. i still haven't heard from my friend. i can't get ahold of them. weird thing is, i had planned on being in montreal and would have been there today so i am pretty glad i didn't end up going. i would have been in that general area.
thats terrible. i don't live in canada, but i visit montreal quite a bit. this definately puts a damnper on things
anyone remember the other shooting that happened at a college in montreal in the late 80's. a bunch of women were killed... so sad.
Yeah, it was at the Polytechnique, by Marc Lépine. There was also the Concordia shooting by Valery Fabrikan. Man, I'm bummed. A girl I know (girfriend's cousin' fiancee) goes to Dawson.
"Guns don't kill people, people kill people". Give me an effing break, it's a hell of a lot easier for a disturbed person to kill a bunch of people if he has a gun, especially an automatic weapon that was designed for the sole purpose to kill human beings. There's no good reason for a person to own such a thing.
'Give me an effing break'. Any idea what caused this? http://www.truthdig.com/images/reportuploads/oklahomacity_350.jpg Clues - cheaper/ more readily available than firearms... especially up there from what I've read.
people shouldn't have guns period. what gives someone the right to walk into a school with thousands of people and start shooting aimlessly with a big gun? solve your depression and deal with your insanity else where. life is harsh. everyone has their own issues. don't be a lazy fuck who decides to hate life and hate everything that moves and take it upon yourself to cause choas. don't start making it other people's problems and start taking other people's lives with it. my friends and i had to run like crazy yesterday with the several other people who were scared shitless. being worried for other people you know isn't fun either when they aren't answering their phones. all in the name of one psycho.
Nisha: You have my sympathy for what you had to go through. At the same time, I'm really glad you're O.K. Much peace and lots of love
You know... all morning I've been listening to the issues being brought up on the issue... and not ONE person brought up the issue of depression/mental illness/personality and social disorders and how to treat and prevent them!!! All they are talking about is gun control... and that is only a small fraction of the problem!! Yes, guns are a major problem, and people in his mental state nor anyone should have them. But people don't realize how dismissed social/personality disorders are!! This guy was probably extremely lonely, extremely depressed... and what happens when you have no one to talk to about your problems or no one to point out to you that you have them to begin with? You snap one day and pull stunts like this!! There is not enough support out there for alienated people!! It's very easy to lose one's mind in this crazy chaotic world! But no.... guns are the problem; society's peachy! These people are just freaks without a motive! I'm not justifying what he did; I think it was a disgusting and cowardly way to go about making a statement and trying to change things... I'm just saying that people like this don't get the help they need. A lot of people with social disorders aren't at terms with their own problems to begin with. Something has to be done about that too!! Guns are physical objects and can be taken away.... you can't put away personality disorders; they have to be faced and treated. My niece goes to Dawson and luckily, she skipped class yesterday morning. But 2 of her friends are in the hispital with leg wounds. Yes, it's very sickening that people have to go through this trauma. But I think it's just as sad that there are people in the world who feel the only way they can satisfy their inner struggles is by going to these extremes. We really have to do something about it!
An example of how alienated these people feel... Yesterday I was watching the news and they were interivewing various students about what happened... and one girl literally mentioned in her 3rd sentence that he had a "retarded haircut". People don't just wake up, look in the mirror and say, "Hmm... I want to be a freak from now on. I want to be bad... yeah!!" This guy (as disgusting as his actions were) was probably humiliated and labelled "freak" for the majority of his life! People have motives you know! People don't just choose to be freaks! For the majority of my academic life, I was laughed at, tormented emotionally and beat up by my peers. By the time I reached college, I was a very angry individual, dealing with a handful of personality disorders including paranoia and schizotypal personality disorder. Everytime someone laughed in my presence, I instantly thought it was directed at me and I would fume inside. I trusted no one entering college and didn't talk to anyone. I thank Spirit that I met my significant other, who helped me come to terms with my disorders and has helped me slowly overcome them. But not everyone gets the support they need, and the longer these disorders boggle up inside individuals, the more prone these people are to snapping one day.
Guns are just the easiest step. Next easiest for most is a bomb, which causes even more damage... restricting guns just means that people who want to do this likely find more creative and destructive ways of causing damage. It's pretty sickening though. Extra frustrating that there seems to be so little focus on how to help people out with mental illness.
Already addressed the issues of procurement ease/cost but left out destruction. Small arms don't even begin to approach the damage a small, simple bomb can cause...
