Thanks Varuna, and I agree. Space is a good metaphor for the mystery. It is dark, infinite, and looks like nothing. You can't see anything, just a void, black, and all encompassing. In the light of day, there is little mystery. Mystery is far more prominent at night, for me anyway.

One more quote I like about the topic.
H.J.Haldene, 'The universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine.'

Damnation ! Hikaru, every one of your posts either cracks me up laughing, or hits the nail on the head - this one has only one genuine reply:

    LOL !

Ah yes indeed ! I thinkk that night I posted my reply I had enjoyed a bottle of Nuits St George a little bit too much.

I think a better reply to this thread is actually that its easier to speculate on the meaning of things that havent been easily explained by science.
At one point there was no explanation of what the sun was and what relation it had to the earth so people just made stuff up.
Everything can be explained as a causal chain but its the links that are missing that tend to bring about confusion and resentment, and just plain wrongheaded thinking

I enjoy the rare jar of Guinness myself.
And if I am indulging in something a little stronger.... maybe two fingers of Glenfiddich, neat.
Or I could sip a Bombay Sapphire Gin and tonic.
Or maybe a shot or two of Cuervo Gold Reposado Tequila, familia reserve if possible.
Or a frosty pint of some light, dry pilsner, maybe a Becks or Amstel, or Grolsch.
Or a nice glass of extra dry red wine, as long as it is aged properly, and has been left to breathe for a bit.
As for the sun, would the God be male? Fiery? Maybe Prometheus?
