I don't mean how many hours have you been staring googly-eyed at the flickering monitor. The question is when did you first get the internet?

Could you live without it now?

Got a computer exactly ten years ago, and the internet a couple of years after that. I could live without the internet, but I wouldn't want to. When you're working on essay after essay, doing research for a project, and writing a novel for which you might need countless little bits of obscure information, then you could look in a library for most of it, but the internet is just so much more convenient. And as for the forums, well I tried living without them. Managed about 6 months, but they always pull me back....

More than 10 years for me.

I first went online in 1995 I reckon, that was when the internet was still powered by camels and string... WHICH coincidentally was also the theme of the first porn site I visited[IMG]

I've been around for 5-10 years, probably closer to 10. Either 1996 or 1997. My first ISP was Compuserve, then I went onto Freeserve, and right now I'm using BT Broadband. I miss the Compuserve chat forums and newsgroups sometimes, but there's always this place to develop a crippling addiction to :)

You followed my path exactly, though I've gone on to TalkTalk free broadband now. I know what you mean about the Compuserve chat rooms, they were pretty cool. I liked the design of Compuserve too. But it wasn't worth paying a monthly fee and still only getting a limited amount of time for it....

Which forums did you go on, Sal? I usually went on the CB simulator (Go shortcut "CB" I think). It was smaller and quieter than the other chat room. Then I got horribly addicted to AirWarrior and spent most of my time on that.

Oops, did I say forums? I'm sure they always referred to them as forums, and there were forum-esque message boards somewhere on all the chat services. I remember getting told off by some woman for posting a rude joke that her son started repeating all the time. Classic :D

It was a purely technical relationship!

I first got online with Libertysurf, got a whole year of massive 56k modem phat-pipe-ness for £20. Don't remember the year... '98/'99ish? I have an old Debian Linux disk from '99... woohoo!

I still remember the painful days of 28.8, when I could laugh at people with 14.4....
