Most of you know that I'm a saxophone player at heart. But lately, I've been feeling like the only one left on this earth! Everyone wants to be a lead guitar player, everyone wants to be a drummer... Whatever happened to winds and brass? Now don't get my wrong, I love playing bass and drumming whenever I can, but if I could only play one instrument for the rest of my life I'd have my tenor sax - No question about it. So many people just seem to play wind instruments because they need to to take a certain music class or just for school band or something, they don't really seem to enjoy it. Anyone out there who really truly enjoys playing a wind instrumnet, or am I really the last one on earth?
I've been known to expel a little wind now and again, but I think we may have different things in mind....
my girl is a flautist who i jam with. an my mum an her boyfriend play sax (alto an tenor) an clarinet. they do jazz +D
I like trying my hand at all instruments I can get said hands on! Guitar was my first love and still wouldn't give it up for anything, but still I love getting tunes out of my other instruments. I don't have any brass and I've never tried any, again, love to though! I've got a couple of flutes and a recorder which I enjoy playing time to time. I think strings is where it's at for me though (even though I have a large fear of snapping strings and have to re-string everything with safety goggles on!) - I've got a little auto-harp which I'm quite fond of too
I play the flute (and piccolo) and the clarinet and I used to play the treble recorder when I were a wee lass at school.
My daughter plays most wind instruments...music student about to begin her final year at uni...and although she loves playing, I think the love of her life is her accoustic guitar, Sky!
Yay Paddy came back! Hi Paddy! It's comforting to know I'm not the only one... And I have ventured into strings every now and again, but my love there comes from playing bass. That to me is the most fun. I own two basses (one electric and one acoustic) and I have an acoustic guitar, but my jazz bass sees the most action. I've really grown fond of playing walking jazz lines on it, at least now that my fingers have good callouses on them...
i'm a bassoonist, and flautist! one of 3 bassoons at music college now, and the principal one at that! yikes!
i can remember at the first practise of EUWB i went to there was like 8 bassoon players it was mad. most of them buggered off to play in other bands or switched to another instrument.
Haha! Crazy bassoon players... I've tried to play double reeds, but I just cant. I need a mouthpiece. My school doesn't see much in the way of double reed players, we have one bassoon player this year in our Sinfonietta. Since we're playing classical our bari sax player gets stuck with mostly 2nd and 3rd bassoon parts... Poor boy, does so much transposing...
teehee transposing can be fun though if the music really easy speaking of music ive got an orchestral audition tomorrow eep!
Haha well he was unaware that music can switch CLEFS during songs, and was completely freaked out when a second bassoon part switched from bass to tenor clef in the middle of it It was hilarious... And I'm sure only a true music geek would find that amusing... Good luck with your audition! Let us know how it goes Are you auditioning on bassoon?
yep. the audition went fine, i haven't checked the notice board for when my orchestra rehersals start yet will do sooooon. its not surprising my audition went well coz theres only like 3 bassoons in the entire college. id have to be reaaaaaaly awful to not get in oo thunder!
transposing is a doddle, haven't quite got the hang of playing tenor on alto parts and vise versa yet though.
