Did any of you guys that were around in the 60s really understand what you had going on? Did you realize the special time that you were blessed to witness( even if it was for a short while?)

Well, speaking for at least some of us ...

... did we understand - yes.
... did we realize it as a special time - sure.

But I don't think it was for a short while. I think a lot of us still feel as we felt, believe as we did, work for the same causes, listen to the same music and do pretty much the same thing we did "then"(I have some problems with "then", to me it's always "now" - different story).

I also feel we've had a lot of fun and that we've done a lot of good - so far. And we're NOT done. The world still needs hippies.

    Peace,

I really commend the first hippies back in the day, I was not around to enjoy the 60s and 70s, but I have caught the aftermath of the culture and era. What a legacy they have left for us, The tye dye I believe is one of the hippie tribes most famous works that has lasted through the ages, that shirt is ancient, yet is still worn and considered fashionable today, itll never go out of style, and I am proud to wear one, the tye dye is my flag.
Thanks old timers for the legacy of the hippies that you have left.

Shameless and Old Dad-Great stuff you guys-It was a good time-most of the time-just because so much was going on at once-the 60s was a cultural 1st' for this country-thats probably one of the reasons it is so much remembered so well is because there has never been a time in US history where so many Americans came together to demand an end to a long running war- People were tired of the same old bs coming out of The White House and the beautiful part was the coming together of thoughts-Even my parents who thought the hippies-were wierd looking and different ' had to admit the war was wrong and Nixon was a crook!-When middle America sided with the hippies ; yippies etc. and we all demanded changes Washington had to listen-That same thing is finally happening now with the Bush Dynasty-Thank God-He has the world hating us and Americans are not hateful people-but our leaders have sent a bad message to the world-so-back to topic-Yes the 60s were a great party in alot of places in this country-but they were also turbulent and scary at times- Anyone with hair to their ass hitchhiking through Texas or Lousiana can tell ya about it-Just watch Easy Rider-The ending was right on in alot of places-that stuff did happen---

PS-Shamless-Didn't mean to badmouth Texas-Texas today is alot different then it was back then-I lived in Odessa for awhile in the 80s-what a wild west place that was/is!-OMG-Did someone say OIL!-lol--On a "higher" note I hot a call from the county where I live-the drug and alcohol abuse council asked if I'd speak at some meetings on my history with abuse-I said sure-I quit everything 5 years ago so I guess I'm an expert now-haha--Anyway-I have plenty of free time and I have lost many family memebers and friends to substance abuse so maybe I can do some good and answer questions on this subject-I have a couple friends right now that I kinda sponser that are trying to clean up-Remember-what goes around comes around-and I suppose it's my turn to help someone-why not?-I could be gone tommorro-like to think I did some good (besides organising parties)-while the aliens had me here-!-(we'll discuss that another time)wswswswswswsxc---my cat just typed this part!-honest0she loves it up on the keyboard-
