...the day Thatcher dies? Kings College, Cambridge JCR, always a hot bed of radical activity, have voted to allocate part of their budget (given to them by the college) in hosting a party for all the students. I'm sure there'll be plenty going on around the country. Who said parT? We're having it round your house!
Ooh...Not to shit in anyone's cereal or anything, but I don't think I'll be celebrating any deaths personally. I'll obviously not be mourning, but I'm not gonna be cracking open the champagne. Just a sorta; what's done is done kinda mentality I guess. I mean, for all she was awful, she has family, and they'll be rather devasted, I'd feel worse cheering her departure with that in mind than I would just letting the day slip into history.
as a former thatcher voter I will be sad to see her go. The bears and me may well have a small wake in her honour , eat some fine soup maybe we will play some of her old speeches say her speechs during the falklands war or some of her criticism of arthur scargill if you notice labour were unelectable until they started to move to the right most people in the uk I would think are center or center right in politics and generally dont like extremes . thatcher was elected because lots of people thought things had moved to far to the left . I voted for her after the winter of discontent where you seemed to have strikes for very little reason lots of secondary picketing ,and you had people not being buried . she was a good prime minister during the falklands war which may well have been mishandled to start with, but I think when the invasion happened should have been fought .
Not something i will be celebrating personally, i'm sure in her earlier days she did as much good in office as bad.
I'll be sending the TUC a "she'll be back to haunt you" card Thatcher had her faults, and they were many and varied towards the end of her political career....... but she at least managed to get power away from the unions
I've been trying to reach my best friend who wrote me a suicide email last night, so this is the first I heard about Margaret Thatcher's death... But earlier yesterday, I wondered how she would have handled to War On Terror. Probably not flying on the wings of The Bush Administration.. Yeah, I admired Mrs Thatcher.. But today, I've cancelled my life for somebody else.. Maybe she died so that mudpuddle may live..
thatcher the milk snatcher ........what a **** ..............................think on the bright side she will be back with dennis ........no peace for the wicked eh !
I remember posting exactly this thread here a couple of years ago and it getting exactly the same replies... there's a difference between celebrating the death of an individual and the death of someone's public persona or the ideology they represent. I let out a cheer when I heard Reagan had died, but then felt bad about it. Many of us will be dancing all night when the iron lady pops her clogs but it's just because of what she represents, it's not at all related to the personal tragedy it will be for her family and friends. Lanky... hope mudpuddle is ok, I always liked her posts
I've got respect for the woman, Her party in the early days brought alot of new ideas and alot of change. I'm not saying good change or that I agree with it all, but I think respect where it's due whether I'm in agreement or not.
She is thank you.. Which means Mrs Thatcher should be dead... I cried at that famous wave as she left 10 Downing Street, but won't for her death.. But then, I won't celebrate it either..
You should let him, in the House of Commons bringing Hitler Comparisons is, I think, not permitted. Else you'd get every heated debate reverting back to extreme emotional examples like Nazi Germany as a reference point. So in debate, it's a somewhat self defeating move, even if the terms of the argument are all logical. Having said that, I agree with Lithium (am glad he said it not me!)
Hang on? Is she even DYING? Wait till she's at deaths door....They'll be celebrations in scotland for sure
She's been dying since the day she was born. Every minute that passes is a minute closer to party time :sunglasse
