Well since everyone's been whoring bands around, and as they've got a new album coming out in October, I guess it's time for a thread to discuss (or at least state what you think about) My Dying Bride.

I'm really really really looking forward to 'A line of deathless kings'. The track titles and artwork are already made public (check their site, mydyingbride.org), and it looks fucking dark!

*crosses fingers and hopes it's going to sound like 'Turn loose the swans'...*

My Dying Bride are okay.. Never really got into them. I only have The Voice Of The Wretched, and i don't particularly like the vocals, so i never got more. They have some good riffs though, but the keyboards sound too much like Emperor/CoB, only worse.

I was really in to them circa Turn loose the Swans, The Angel and the Dark River, and Gods of the Sun. Then that album with the stupid title (something like 38.99994% Complete) came out and just looked so shitty and got such bad reviews, that I never bought it or anything that came after it. Was that album as horrorbly worthless as it looked? Did they ever start making good music again?

Oh yes, that was a one-off album. It strayed far from their original style, and the albums that came after that were much more in the old vein again, including grunts and all. 38.788% isn't my favourite by far, but it's got its decent moments, and I like it more than Like gods of the sun, which is my least favourite of all their albums.

The keyboards sound like Emperor / CoB?? What the fuck?
CoB has these annoying happy keyboard jingles that make you want to nuke the whole of Finland. Honestly, keyboards can be good, but I hate it when it's standard keyboard beeps. At least have the decency to dress it up like choirs, organ or violins or something.

Emperor and My Dying Bride make much better use of the keyboards. Much more a supporting function. And no bleeps. And My Dying Bride of course used to have a violinist until 34.788%. Still, the style is definitely very different.

I think my favorite use of keyboards is used in Black Metal. But, My dying bride utilizes them well. If you ask me the only place for keybaords is crazy prog metal or deep down evil metal. I heard a newer My DYing bride song I forgte what its called, I saw the vid on headbangers ball. I dont quite liek it reminded me to much of type O negative who i hate so much...

That CoB's use of keyboard makes me want to nuke Finland so at least I'm sure I'll never have to hear them again. :)

Nuking Finland won't get rid of thier CDs though will it? It will just make the rest of the world slightly happier. As if some weight they didn't even know they were shouldering has been lifted.

I dont get all the hype around bodom. I like em a little (Follow the reaper album) But alexi is hailed as god and I just dont see it...Maybe its just me but I think they might be one of the worst out of finland. Especially for the black metal scene...Finland is for GREAT metal not bodom...O well..

    MDB -- Greatness!

Hailtothekingbaby -- 'Turn Loose the Swans' is a masterpiece! Comparing anything to it, the other becomes obsolete. I personally don't want to hear anything similar to TLTS. Some things are better left as is, and this is one of those situations.

Think of it this way: Anything is a step-up from the horrific 'Songs of Darkness, Words of Light' release.

I bet you they won't include a free poster and magnet with this LP... IF they do, it's a warning sign that history is going to repeat itself. Then what you do is take those nukes intended for Finland and strap them to your ears, and save one for me as well. Ha, ha.

Cool, I didn't know they were releasing a new album. I like MDB, The Light at the End of the World is my personal fav.

Songs of darkness isn't my favourite either, but it has its moments. The light at the end of the world is great, slightly better IMO than The dreadful hours even though the title track of TDH is among my favourite MDB songs.

The promo's leaked, but I'm going to buy the new album as soon as it hits the stores and that will be the first time I'll hear it.
