Well we haven't had one of these threads in a little while, so here goes...

How did you find this forum? What drew you in, and what makes you keep coming back?

I did a search for the mermaid cafe its in a joni mitchell song and I wanted to find if it was a real place.
anyway one of the sites I visited had a link to hipforums what intested me first wasnt the uk forum but the drug related forums.
I dont believe in the criminalisation of drugs and the legality of alcohol and cigarettes it doesnt seem logical .
eliss d tripp impressed me a lot I remember thought he knew a lot about drugs and gave good advice about them ....
since then Ive met lots of people off the site most if not all Ive liked , some of my best friends are from hip forums

I was introduced to the place by a nice kid from the uk called Nephii (who I bumped into an a Levellers messageboard).... who only hung around a coupla weeks before disapearing.... i got hooked i guess and have been here ever since. Mostly taking root in the chatroom.

Don't particularly count myself as part of the UK forum, don't really know any of the regs here.... i just post anywhere that looks vaguely interesting on the site... but it's cool to see the place thriving again :)

I typed in hippy.com and soon after Hipforums was relaunched (in 2001). I hung around reading posts in the drugs and politics forum for a bit, but resisted registering. Then I remember one thread I just couldn't resist replying. Soon after I was hooked. When I found that there was a lifeless UK Forum, and saw that it had potential, I asked Skip if I could mod it and try to build a community there. The rest, as they say, is history....

i was actually on the search for a drug-related forum with a thriving community, somewhere i could give and receive information on drugs and other things in life, somewhere to kill time.
i googled, this was the 5th or 6th forum I found, as soon as I found this i stopped looking.
I keep coming back because i like it, simple as.

Just the old 'hippy.com' for me. I think it was probably the music threads that drew me into the hipforums. Then I think it might even of been Sal who suggested I swing by the UK section.

And, perhaps obviously, it's the people that keep me coming back. Plus the range of topics and debates that you can discuss here. There's rarely any grief given over your views either and that's quite amazing for an internet message board!

    Uncle Albert!

Now I just know I'm in the UK Forums!

I joined Hipforums because it was listed in my best friends profile info.. She got me onto UKHippy, which just didn't have the same pull as The Forums..
Thanks to great work done by Sal, I spend as much time here, as I do in RT....

Yeah, you only have to dig a little to find out who the person was that started all this for me...

Still bestest friends after 18 months...

    Awwwwwww... :)

    To answer my own question...

I went to protest George W Bush during his state visit to the UK in 2003. A few weeks later I googled "anti-Bush demo" or somesuch and came up with the "UK photos" forum here; a whole bunch of people from here had gone to the demo. First remember noticing a colourful Fleassy. The political debate was what got me interested enough to hang around so I lurked for a bit. I was happy to see so many likeminded lefty thinking people. I think what kept / keeps me coming back is the mad spontaneity and creativity of places like randomness (which admittedly is still just coming out of a fallow patch).

This place has ups and downs but I've not found anywhere to rival it at its best:)

Found this place a couple of years ago though for the life of me can't remember how.
Absenced myself a year ago when most other UKers went on a wander disgruntled with some of the site activities.

Always found myself on the fringes and never really part of the gang, so after a PM that was shall we say, a little ill mannered, I thought I'd come and see if Sal ,Taz & Johnny were still hanging about, pleased to see they are.
