    at first..

Yesterday, me and my boyfriend went to spend the day in Atlanta just for the hell of it, since I had only ever really been to the airport and the baseball stadium and then the zoo once. So we woke up at like 5am and took the 6am Greyhound up there. Well, when we first got there, it was like 7:30 and nothing was open and the only people out on the street were the bums.

I'm not trying to be racist.. but I swear that for the first 2 hours we were there, I did not see one other white person. It made me feel so out of place  And the bums were REALLY bothering us because they saw that we were white and to them, white = money. I think i gave away like a total of 20 bucks to these bitches  They would just follow us around and tell us how to get to shit and expect a few dollars for the directions, even though we didnt ask for the help in the first place... I mean, how fucked up is that? And then when we walked through this parking garage, I saw 2 rats.. whcih really fuckin freaked me out =/=/=/=/=/

So, at first I was so fucking ready to get out of Atlanta but then Richard told me to ignore the bums and took me to a few really cool places. Centinnial Park was really nice and had some great fountains [that Im mad i didnt take pictures of] and then there is this place called the Underground. Its like this underground mall with all sorts of shit in it. It was almost like a fun fair.. there were bands playing on a stage, clowns handing out balloons, tarot card readers, an exotic bird show, and all the stores you could imagine. We even ate lunch at this cool Irish-themed pub [I got fish and chips but it didnt compare to the real thing :( although the chips were really damn good] And there were all these really cool music shops and shops that you could get really neat knick-nacks all throughout the city.

So, this is my overall opinion of Atlanta now.. there are parts of it that is dirty and bum-infested.. but there are some really great things to see too. It is a really cool city with lots of stuff to do in it, but I dont think I could ever live there.. or in any big city for that matter. I'm much more happy to live in a medium sized town and then go visit the big cities for shits and giggles when i feel like it :p

I really don't mind Atlanta. I think it's about 86 percent black. My only problem is all the meth towns built up around the city and ITP (285)... Atlanta is a frickin blob that is eating the state of Georgia.

    It's like DC's sprawl.

luckily, i dont care what you think :D

and yeah, george, I totally agree.

And I know that giving money to the bums was a big mistake, I just hate to see people in trouble and when they are, I try to help. And some of their stories.. :( But after I had lost quite a bit of money to them, I felt like they were just stereotyping me: "oh, she's white, she must have money" and just stopped giving money out, no matter how sad the story.

man the streets of atlanta are so safe its silly compared to a lotta cities..

the bus station area can be rough, but not after daybreak..

usually ya wouldnt wanna wander off tween midnight and 3 am..

    yeah ya gonna get panhandled..

just remind them panhandling is illegal in the city of atlanta an say NO.

as far as the "stereotyping",, you should talk..

I never said I was scared of anything.. only time I was slightly freaked out was when I saw the rats cuz they give me the creeps..

and I'm not stereotyping, I'm simply basing my opinion on what I saw that day. I'm not saying there are not white bums [cuz i saw plenty of them] and im not stereotyping and saying that all black people are bums. You just read a little bit too much into what I say ;) [like always] Go on, go waste your life in some other thread.. pick on some other 17 year old who you think is dumb and rip their opinion apart, cuz i got better things to do than this stupid shit with you.. like get ready for work.. Peace.. :H

I used to live down in Atlanta, its alright, nothing special. Personally, I like Seattle better, and I don't like Seattle that much.

It makes sense that you didn't see any other white people, down in a lot of parts in ATL blacks and whites live on seperate sides of town.

If you go to a big city with bums and you look like you're going to give them money, they will ask for it. I am black and it happens to me from black and white people. There are a lot of hidden parts to Atlanta, you have to know the right people. But Atlanta really is about equally mixed when it comes to the races. If not that, there's probably more white people, just like every other city.

The underground is really cool, but really it's much like most big cities. I'd love to live in big cities, except that I hate the traffic in Atlanta. It's a cool place though. And hhb is right, it's a lot safer than a lot of other big cities, it's size. So long as you don't go to the wrong place, but it's nothing compared to D.C.

Wiki/Census shows Atlanta's black population is just two percent short of doubling the white population.

Here, here. Can't stand cities either. I still like Seattle's downtown areas a lot better than Atlanta's, but I'm not ending up in either place.

Are they including the Atlanta suburbs?

When I go to Atlanta, I see an even mix. If not majority white.

    LOL!

I dont give a shit whether a person is black or white or yellow or fucking purple, color of skin makes no difference to me. I never said I had a bad time in Atlanta cuz I was a different color than most of the people I saw up there. I made this thread mainly to talk about my day in Atlanta.. the only real bad part about it was that there were so many damn bums and #1 I felt sorry for them and #2 they wouldnt leave me the fuck alone.

and as for the rest of the people in this thread, I'm pretty sure they were just stating their own facts and opinions and are no more racist than you and me. Shit, I've probably got more black friends than white, thanks very much.. dont call me a racist when ya dont know shit about me.

And as for me being a tourist. I'm damn glad I'm a fucking "tourist" I've only lived in GA for a year and I'm glad of it. No offence against GA, there really aint nothin wrong with it.. but I think its kind of sad when ppl live in the same place their entire life, say til they're like 40 or so and never experience other places for any longer than taking vacation there. And I have every intention of leaving GA in a year or so.. to experience a new place. But yeah, you keep on living in this state that you say is so great [even though it aint any different than any of the rest] and keep on hatin us tourists ;)
