So where i work there are a lot of neo-con types.

Today during a smoke break a discussion was started about the Chavez speech at the UN.

These people actually believe that WWIII is inevitable and needed to bring Jesus Christ back!

they see GW as a holy warrior and think that the rest of the world hates the U.S. "because of our freedoms".

Are you shitting me?!?!

I tried to put a new perspective on things for them and they were outraged that i would dare prepose that a significant portion of blame for the current state of the world is at the feet of the U.S. and it's recent 50 years of history.

One guy even claimed i supported terrorists and should be jailed!

and of course there was the usual "love it or leave" and "you should be thankful you have the freedom to say what you want" and "do you know how many men and women died to give you your freedom" not to mention "if a democrat gets elected we will have another terror attack"...

I hadn't had a chance to respond to anything, they were livid that i dont worship at the feet of Bush aka Jesus Jr.

fucking cogs, man......

 

These are also the same people who truely believe that global warming is a lie concoted by the green-left to hurt industry and workers, that evolution theory is a secular lie and that the founder of the U.S. wanted prayer in public schools, that Christianity is persecuted in the west and that persecution is justification of their faith, and that by electing Bush to a second term we effectively stopped another 9/11 from happening...

How the fuck do you argue against such willfull ignorance?

But anyhow... Yeah, I know some of what you are talking about. Example: The 2000th serviceman the Bush Administration killed in Iraq lived about 12 miles from my farm. He went to high school with both my sons... he was a real good kid. Everyone around here is all, "Proud of his sacrifice, protecting us..." all that. And the same, "Bush doing good job " stuff too... makes me want to puke.

I live in Northeast,Ohio here. A suburb of Cleveland. Thank goodness the majority of NE Ohioans are democrats, liberals, and/or independents. You don't hear too much of that insanity in these parts.

I don't think you should let it get to you as much as it may have. There are people who enjoy being closed minded, and yet preach freedoms. The best that you can do is to remain civil and respectful during any kind of heated discussion like this - and escpecially if the other persons are going batshit insane over their personal opinions and start telling you how it is. It's always nice to remind them of a calm, peaceful and mindful reality they are standing in.
