Ive moved inot my own place. There's a huge attic and basement. Attic = huge temp fluctuations so prob not a good idea for year round grows. Basement = has oil furnace, smells like fuel oil down there (no leaks tho). Am i SOL for a grow room?
You should still be able to grow in the basement if theres enough room and theres a way to set up an extractor fan.
Are you SOL, I think not! Grow some NYCD or ECSD (New York City Diesel or East Coast Sour Diesel) down there and they will be getting free CO2 from the furnace if you work it right! Remember - fresh air smells good to you; but plants love carbon dioxide!!!
Building a box (size corresponding to your light) to have a self contained grow area may be an idea if your worried about the oil and the possibility of a fire. A self contained area allows for complete darkness and some camo for at least part of the life cycle. If for whatever reason you let someone in your basement just keep a sign "Danger Large Snakes" on the door.
yea, i'll have to figure something out.... 1. every winter the furnace guy cleans/inspects furnace (have too) 2. at some point in the next year, i need an electrician downstairs to put in a larger panel box. Other than that, nobody goes down there. There's 2 small areas, maybe 5x7 that are next to each other, sorta w/ framing in the middle, i bet i could finish framing them both, and make one light the other dark etc for diff aspects of growing? Plus, if i get a larger panel box, i know how to run extra outlets and such. What can i expect for start up costs, lights, potting stuff, seeds, etc??? Money is tight right now, probably not in 30-60 days though. I'm getting back into some "deals" again for a short while to pay for a divorce.
Are you starting off with a two chambered grow room from the get-go; or do you already have some growing experience? If you're just starting out in growing you can build half now and half later if you need it - as you gain more experience. In two room systems, usually, one room is on a vegetation cycle. While the other room is on a flowering cycle. A small area is also set aside for seed germination or cloning. A set-up like this can turn over six crops a year (depending on flowering duration). You just "rotate the rooms" nonstop. What can you expect for start up costs? To be realistic and do it right I would say about $600-$800. You could do it for quite a bit less if you like to scrounge around a little and DIY when possible. On the other hand; spending money is the easiest thing in the world - you could easily spend over a grand for all the toys with bells and whistles. That's for growing stuff only - not construction materials.
Yea, i'm def new to growing. I def have space to turn 2-3 rooms of 6x6feet each. I ordered BOG's book, so that'll give me some good info. And time to start scouring for what i need light wise, soil, nutes etc... lots to learn. But hey, if i can make good wine, i can grow good bud
Well, just realized i only have a 100amp panel, only room for 2 more small breakers, 15amp each at most. Probably going to have to pay elec co to turn off power, get a new panel box put in, and then rewire some stuff.
