I'm just wondering if any of you have ever done the backpacking around Aus. thing...or for a fair bit of it anyway. Only I'm interested in doing it myself...I'm just not sure about a few things.

If you have...how much money did you start off with? And did you use public transport or did you have a car or whatever? What kind of jobs did you do on the way? Ect ect.

    thanks.

I do it. But I have a car that I can live and not pay accomodation. However, there are lots of places where you have to pay for accomodation. Rangers will wake you up otherwise. But if you are willing to do anything, there is ALWAYS work in most parts of Australia. I'm about to take someone sown to Perth with me too so that halves my fuel bill :)

A fair bit around Southeast Asia, but I've had to stop travelling for the last few years for study. I haven't done any backpacking around Australia, but I have visited most states.

You can survive on quite little money, at least in SE Asia, by staying in guest houses and using public transport.

I'm backpacking in Australia right now. In melbourne at the moment which is a pretty nice place and I'm heading up to New South Wales in a week or so. I've been invited up to a festival there which should be cool.
