hello there I thought Ill devote thisone to pete. just wondering what do you folks think of him, not particularly at this day and age, since he might be stealing popularity from his gf kate. seriously, would you label him as the musical genius of our time as so many people do nowadays?

I'm pretty much with Shirley in that I wouldn't give him genius status. But I reckon his music is pretty darn good. I think he writes some clever lyrics, funny lyrics here and there, and often quite touching lyrics. Plus he seems fairly decent on the guitar and uses some odd chords on occasions! I always like that :)

Quite like his voice too, it's nice to hear a not-too-perfect voice belting out the song regardless.

Yep, Libertines were a top band, Babyshambles are kind of alright. Genius? no but some damn good songs. Feel sorry for him, whenever you see him interviewed he just looks lost and confused like a ickle boy. Surely a contender to put money on for "dead by 27"... harsh but true[IMG]

*actually I think he's 27 now, the year of premature rock and roll death:eek:

well, I agree that his lifestyle is annoying.. as to the title of "a musical genius of our times", I would have to reduce this category into last decade. The references that people make about the musical geniuses as Mozart and such, lately.. the musicians of the 50s and 60s and such.. are somwhat less comparable to the last decade in the quality sector. As to the drug use, I don't think he is any different from others (eg. Cobain, as he was famous for... ) its just.. that we are just the right age to see it all in reality. but, I still give him the title for his creativity, his range, because he can truly write songs in many styles and genres. Catchy, simple enough to be remember, complicated enough to give him a credit for his guitar. lots of variety to have many fans.

oh.. and just to mention, perhaps their most famous song was not the best. like the mocking bird, or the flophouse (if that wasn't written by the babyshambles tho) or the last post on the bulge.. and such and such

Hummm tough one.. I think pete is a bit of a dickhead to be honest and it was Carl Barrat that was the brains behind him although lyrically Pete is very good and both very inteligent individuals!!! I love The Libs - currently sitting wearing a Libs T-shirt - and have seen them a few times and with Pete!!! Babyshambles I like rather a little less!! Pete is an alright man - all geniuses were fuck heads if you think about it - he is at the rock n roll age!!! Look at Kurt Cobain he took skag and what not and the like... does that make Pete any different from him?

Toughy this subject! I think I am more of a Carl lass myself!!!!

    :)

...which made me think Hippie Girl, that you are right. your observation about Barrat being "the brains" of the band.. well at least half the brains :) reminded me that yes it might be the time-place-coincidence working to put the greatest bands together as a team, and maybe we would never notice eg. robert plant with his screechy voice if it wasn't for led zeppelin, or... ringo star etc. so could it be that, say if doherty was born 10 years later, he would not get famous due to him totally missing out on barrat's presence, instead of getting into drug business like.. other less famous musicians?
