so I was reading on one of the seed sites forums, and they had a specific forum for micro/mini growers. is it really possible to grow some bud in a space as small as a shoebox... there all like ya kids grow under their beds... how is that possible? Using like the Scrog and Bog techniques, still... how small can you get?
Yeah, right! In a shoebox - maybe bonsai buds. Absolutely bullshit, a grow light is bigger than a shoebox, do the math!!! "Lowrider" is the smallest strain I know of. It normally grows 12-16" tall and only takes 2 monthes from seed to harvest.
I was going to make my own thread but I'll just bogart this one I have a small closet about 6' tall and about 2' x 2' floor space. I want to experiment and see what I can do with it. Feasibly how many plants could I grow within this amount of space. I like the idea of having a germination rack so I can continuously grow but not sure if it can actually work in this kind of space. Not looking to sell anything, just want some good home grown if I can do it. Figuring about 30-40 bucks for any equipement that I dont already have or cant find. As for seeds I'm going to take about 5 or 6 months trying with what I have (mediocre) and then if I can actually get a harvest I'll talk to some people and see what I can get. Comments and advice highly appreciated. -JMZ-
in that space you could flower 2 plants max. if you do a SOG (sea of green) you could fit 8 max but you will be giving up yield, as with SOG you just have a bunch of top colas. i would just start like 5 seeds......weed out the males......should leave ya with atleast 2 females. a continuous grow would ALMOST be impossible......but could be done after a bunch of studying up on growing. mind you this is a very very vague answer. what kind of lights u plan on using? soil, nutes, pots, exhaust, intake??? all very important info........if you can answer a few more of those questions, we might be able to help ya out a bit more. - 42o -
The closet doesn't have a door, so I'm going to toss a sheet or towel up to cover it (not completely). Hopefully the fabric will allow some air in but I'm also going to put in two of those 4 inch desk fans that I happen to have lying around, one to keep a light breeze coming in through the bottom on the grow, another to help exhaust some of the excess heat out the top of the closet. (at least thats the plan sofar) Also, the walls are kind of a dirty white inside the closet, so not sure if I need to repaint or if I should do the aluminum foil on the wall setup, I've read a few posts somewhere saying that you have to be careful what kind of light you use with the alum'd walls as with a heavy duty light you can possibly wilt the leaves, or worse. I'm thinking I'll probably just pick up white light flourecent fighture at first, hang it with wire so I can adjust the height according to growth, and since its not going to be anything too powerful the foil should work out. I'll find some basic plant soil, try and find something decent maybe organic if the price is right. The pots I was planning oin starting with were going to be the 4" ones so I can start the seeds out and then let em grow for a while and see what I've got. then transplant them to larger pots, maybe 2 or 3 gallons (those seem to be the average suggested from what I've been looking at) Nutrients I'm going to shop around for and see what I can find, hopefully affordable and easy to handle. its a small living space so nothing to rank, not sure yet, but I'm doing alot of reading first to see what seems the best. Any advice or suggestions?
also if this works out I'm planning on ordering some decent seeds and I'll prolly upgrade the setup when I can, maybe get those blue and red spectrum grow lights and see how they work out. JMZ
alright, well you might be able to squeeze 4 plants in there......during flowering things are goin to get crammed. But 2-3 could grow in there perfectly fine. I would suggest getting some CFL's the 42W ones atleast......get a soft white for veg. and a warm white for flowering. Your best bet would be to get a Y socket so you could have 3 of these lamps plugged in at once. In this case i would have 2 soft white and 1 warm white for veg., for flower 2 warm white and 1 soft white or just 3 warm whites. I wouldn't use foil......if the walls in the closet are white, i would just try and clean them the best i could and leave it the way it is. Flat white paint will be better than foil (you wont get hotspots, plus you don't have to mess with hanging the foil. can be kind of a pain in the ass as it rips very easily.) I would try and use all organics if it's possible (soil, nutes). buds taste better, plus it's a tad bit easier to work with organics IMO. If you can't get organic soil......try and find something that has NO trace minerals in it. I would really really try and get some organic nutes, they really aren't that much. I think 2 months ago i got some Fox Farm Grow Big & Fox Farm Tiger Bloom for $10 a piece. Great products. in your situation i would go with a 2gal pot. It will be enough room for the roots plus it will help keep the plants a lil smaller. Basically just read as much info as you can......not only on this forum but others aswell. PM me and i have some other sites you could look at. If you got the extra cash i would suggest getting a good book. BOG has a good book i've heard and same with the Marijuana Grow Bible by George Cervantinis (sp?) After you've done a bunch of reading you'll have a whole new look at this and it makes it TONS easier when you know what your doin for the most part - 42o -
Thanks 420, pm sent Thanks for the advice, I'm gonna search around to see what I can afford, although the Fox farm name keeps popping up so I'll definitely see what I can find from them. prolly get some fresh white paint and just do the walls. Might even have some acrylic gesso somewhere that I can just go over the crappy white with. This first attempt is going to be with a bunch of seeds out of my friends most recent purchase, its some shitty hydro I think but I dont care about the quality of the seeds on the first run, just want to try and grow to see how it goes and learn from the mistakes that I'll make. But not starting until my grow closet is setup. Thanks again, any other advice or suggestions always appreciated. JMZ
dont know a whole lot about LED's........i would suggest lookin into a couple CFL's to help out the LED.....just a thought. - 42o -
