people assume that women with short hair are lesbians? I've been talking to my friends about getting my hair cut, and they said no, because "only lesbians have short hair". It seems rather unfair. I mean, does that mean that all men with long hair are gay?
i know. it's total crap, isn't it? my daughter, kai, looks so adorable and tinkerbellish with short hair, but people keep flipping out over it. i even had one guy refuse to cut her hair short WITHOUT HER DADDY'S PERMISSION!! can you fucking believe that? and she can be covered from head to toe in varying shades of "girly" colors and people still think she's a boy!! fucking morons. i've always preferred short hair. the longest i let mine get is a shoulder length bob. the way i figure it, men are easily frightened and find their potential attraction to a strong female with short hair to be an indication of gayness and therefore shy away. thankfully i found a man who likes short hair better and is completely comfortable with his masculinity. fuck it! cut your hair!! show them how gorgeous you can really be. after all, look how many men drool over short haired starlets...they say one thing, and are ultimately attracted to a beautiful woman no matter what. i know when my hair is really short i still get enough positive reactions to make it worth it.
My mum used to keep my hair really short when i was younger. I hated it because I remember being mistaken for a boy a few times... Looking back I think I looked cute, but the comments I got from people made me hate my looks and i got a little self-conscious.
well, being a guy, i don't think of lesbian or anything when i see a woman with short hair. and it's complete B.S. that a barber wouldn't cut your daughter's hair short without permision from daddy. but to each his/her own. i prefer women with longer hair, but that is a personal preference of mine.
The general population & especially the small minded use hair lenght as one of the identifiers to help their little minds create gender identity & those who don't look "normal" are automatically thought queer. I really have concluded that these people just have no clue how hair grows. It's amazing to me how many times I have heard this kind of person act like somehow they can't believe that a male to female transgendered person can grow her hair long. Like not cutting your hair & letting it grow is somehow a genetic thing. I suppose by that same way of thinking only someone born male is able to do this. My daughter's hair came in slowly so it pretty much got to the point that when we would meet people I would have to identify her gender to most everyone. It eventually came in & that ended. Fast forward until just before she started Kindergarten.. She got ahold of a pair od sicsors & cut a patch out of the front of her bangs while my now ex (no, this isn't why we aren't together) wasn't paying atention. By the time I got home that day my daughter had been dragged to a cheap hair cut place where she was given what would be a boy looking haircut. It all started again. A large number of her classmates spent much of their time telling her that she must not be a girl because she had short hair. It got so bad that I made a complaint to the school under the newly adopted gender identity rules that she was being harrassed. I guess that when you are so small minded you need to have all of the help youi can get to wrap your little brain around what the gender of a person. IF you don't fit into the picture then you must be gay or lesbian..
I agree with SnowDancer's eloquent explanation. Small minded people are afraid of people who look "different". They have a need for people to look alike so they can judge which people are like-minded and subscribe to their beliefs.
I have never, not once, thought that short hair on a woman makes her look like a lesbian, and I have never, not once, run into that particular stereotype myself (every five years or so, I cut my hair real short when I get sick of it being long, and I never wear makeup). I've always had the opposite problem, people thought I was straight, even when in a monogamous relationship with a woman, no matter how long or short my hair is.
