Hey ladies, I was wondering what you think of the shot if you are or have been on it.? The pill I am on now I have been on for 2 years and have had no problems but lately I keep forgetting to take them at the same time so I am thinking about switching to the shot but I want to hear what others experience with it have been..
I would be quite wary of it. I was on it for two years without serious problems, aside from substantial weight gain (like, 30 lbs over 2 years, that simply would not come off no matter how much I excersized. If you're sensitive to hormones (which I'd guess not so much since you've been on the pill for a while) it's not a good idea. If you're pms-y already, it's a bad idea because it does exasperbate that for most women. Have you thought about setting your watch to beep at the same time every day? That's what I do, makes it muuuuch easier to remember when to take your pill.
the shot has it's drawbacks because if you have problems you are stuck with the side effects until the shot wears off. You could try something like the patch. It seems to be more eas to remember but it also has an increased risk of bloodclots associated with it and you really should avoid the patch if you smoke.
go to any search engine and find the patient information and package insert sheets. Read all the known side effects, and understand what might happen. Talk with your doctor about anything you don't understand. And then, after you know what might happen, and how likely that is to happen, and take into consideration your own unique situation and health history, make the best informed decision for you, personally. Me, I react very badly to hormone medications, and am terrified of taking a shot that won't wear off for at least three months, and can possibly cause permanent problems.
I had a seriies of Depo shot to "Control" endometriosis, after endo surgery. (And as soon as my periods came back, it was the same as before all that trouble with surgery and the Depo.) I gained 40 lbs. I only weighed about 105 before I got on it, so that was nearly 40% of my body weight. I had NEVER been that heavy before, even while pregnant. My dh had a theory as to why Depo worked so well as a birth control......I completely lost my sex drive. A lot of womyn do, but not all. I was lucky that I did lose the weight, about a year after I got off the shot, but it took more than 6 months after the last shot before I got a period again. I never menstruated on it. Some womyn actually bleed the entire time. If you want to have an idea of how you respond to it, take the Mini Pill for a few months. But, a caveat, the minipill is not as effective as the Combo Pill OR Depo at preventing pregnancy. Use a barrier method while you are sampling the minipill, because this has to be taken at the exact same time every day. BUT, it is just progestin, so the side effects are similar to Depo Provera.
I am currently on it, a year and a half now. Its fine. Cramping still happends. Some women still have periods once in a while, on schedule, constantly, or not at all.
I didn't have a problem with it other than weight gain... like ihmurria said, about 30lbs over about 2 years. I got off of it only because I heard it can lead to low bone density.
I am on it right now.. I like it alot better then the pill. cause it is less worrying about did I take it or did I not. did I take it at the same time. It just makes everything alot easier. I have had no problem with it. and have gained no weight. so everything is going good. I would say if you are forgeting to take it you should switch to something else. Like depo or the nuvea ring or something else...
Run far far away and don't look back. it wosrsens depression and anxiety, what woman do you know that has never experieced depression and anxiety? i was on it, it messed with me big time.
