Well I always find an armed robbery works well in these situations.

depends on how old you are what resources you have.
if your a adult you could work and make £500 quite quickly even with no skills you could go to a agency and just say you want to work the longest possible hours at nights and that your willing to do several jobs .
myself Id sell things or trade to get the money, make a list of all the things you have and figure out how much they are worth, look on ebay at completed items for the values of things .
the weathers a bit crap but car boot sales can be good too

Hang on a second. I really hope you don't mind my curiousity, but why do you have to give the money to your mum? And you need an extra £500 to give to her?

Back on topic, do you have anything you could sell on eBay? And yeah, like Jonny said, try finding a temporary job on a night shift somewhere if you're old enough. Even if it's minimum wage (which is going up anyway so I'll be wrong with this estimate), you could get £500 in under three weeks by doing nights and working overtime each day.

did you spend the £500 on crazy things, in which case you may have little sense with money, in which case either you get sense or your doomed to big trouble throughout your life .

it is more easy to spend money than to make money, and a penny saved is a penny you dont need to earn in future .

John D. Rockefeller the richest man that ever lived started by selling painted rocks to school pals ,he also is said to have kept books of his expenditure and earnings from a very early age .
seriousness, diligence, and honesty and economy .

make whatever money you can by working , but also start to think of ways to trade to make money .

the fastest way of making money is working for yourself but you have to do it in the right way , as every job you ever get the people who employ you will pay you less than you make them by having you as a employee otherwise they are fools

You could put the other £500 in a high interest ISA and wait 100 years...

You could sell people their Birthday and Christmas presents....

mighty wise the whole idea of giving people something for nothing encourages people not to look after what theyve got , you can buck this trend and save money by selling people presents at bargin prices .
often if we get a thing at a very good price it makes it more special for us .

also try to buy practical gifts I bought a fine pair of blacksmiths tongs for my nephew as his christmas present this weekend and I will sell them to him at a bargin price and im sure he will be mighty pleased

oh and you can spend some of the time that you would normally be watching christmas tv negotiating the final selling price which can be great fun
