    hi,
i was just reading this thread:
    http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175573
and maggie sugar mentions bananas, and it got me thinking....
background: ate bananas all my life, never a prob, never had ANY food allergy, etc....
about 6 months ago, i come to work, start to eat a banana, 1/2 way through i start to feel generally crappy (i don't remember the exact symptoms--didn't think much of it), so i tossed out the rest of the 'nana and drank my coffee.
2 weeks later: get to work, peel my 'nana (first one since last time) and take ONE BITE. instantly, my lips swelled up, my throat got really tight....a few mins later, i got itchy on my neck and face, stomach pains, etc. went to the store for allergy meds, which didn't help much. i drank a LOT of water, and eventually felt a bit better, but not for HOURS. (there was no migraine, although i am VERY familiar with those, due to my nasal allergies.)

now, i OFTEN eat avocados, tofu, red wine, etc, never with any probs.
my family is harrassing me to go to an allergist. it's so damn expensive...i probably will go, because it was really scary, and so much worse the 2nd time, and i should probably know what to do if i accidentally eat anything banana-y.

anyone ever heard of this? cuz i've never heard of someone allergic to bananas. i thought they were good for me!
also, does anyone know what other foods i should avoid?
    thanks.

    peace.
    LP

Save yourself the doctor bill and just quit eating bananas. Doctors are too prone to giving you chemical drugs. Your body is telling you something. Just go with it.
