I've recently had dreads done, by following a guide from 'www.dreadheadhq.com' .. but im generally not happy with the result. I'm not happy with them as, my friend who helped me do them, i feel has sectioned too small, and the 'dreads' are ridicoulousy thin. Also i used wax, and afterwards i've seen many posts here saying not to use it, and to be honest my hair just feels terrible constantly with it. Is it possible to 'undread' them whilst still at the early stages, so i can start over? It's been 3 days so far. If it is possible, how can it be done? Many Thanks
You can try washing with dish soap! Also, in the beginning they'll be thinner and they'll thicken over time when they loop and grow together 2 and 2. Or more. Of course you can try combing them out, but really consider it first, thinking of how much effort you and your friend must've given your hair.
wash out allthe wax thouroughly use very hot water & dr bronners tye dreads may somewhat come out since u really dont have freads yet just hair gunked together with wax after u get the gunkout, just let it do its thing it'll dread the way its meant to dread
A vinegar rinse might help after some seriously thorough cleaning. I forgot to mention that in that other thread a couple days ago. I've found that an apple cider vinegar rinse will do wonders for a little bit of wax residue. Good luck!
Hey, don't feel bad. Your hair isn't in dreads yet, it will have to fall out before it can dread up good and tight, anyway. And in order for that to happen, you have to scrub all the wax out. You don't have to "undread them" because they aren't dreads, just backcombed hair right now. As the backcombing falls out and your hair really forms dreads, it will shrink and the dreads themselves will get fatter. Just give it a really good scrubbing, and keep it good and clean, and wait... and wait.... and wait... In about four or five months, it will start looking like dreads, and in about a year or two, you will have nice dreadlocks.
very good idea..& its very very good conditioner without residue, but i would use a diluted vinigar rince..maybe 1 part vinagar to 3 parts water.. also, the vinagar smell can stickj with u after even a few washings especialy if your dreads are kindatight it does do amazing things for your hair, but because of that vinagary smell lingering i wouldnt suggest it often.. although to get the gunkout its fine...& maybe twice a year after just to soften & restore shine ..it also sorta disilves any kinda buildup..
I don't think that you need a vinegar rinse or anything, if you used DreadHeadHQ wax, you'll be able to wash it out with a non-residue shampoo and really hot water. I used wax when I first put my second set in, and I washed the wax out after the first week. If you sectioned and backcombed them, then they will lock up. No, they don't have to fall out first. I don't know why people think that. If the sections are thin, they will get thicker when the grow up. The first few months you will look very, very silly. That's how it goes. =) And for all the wax-haters. I used wax three or four times the first set that I ever had, and washed my hair with hot water to get it out after a week each time. When I cut my hair off, and my hair open, there was no wax because--yep!--I washed it out! It is a bad idea to drench you hair in wax, and it is better in the long run to not use it, but if you want it to help shape the hair and hold it in its place at first, well, I recommend it. I've used it twice.
I know why, because that was our personal experience (funny, those of us with that experience are in the majority here). Maybe you have coarser or curlier hair, and backcombing worked better for you, or maybe you never got past having backcombed hair because of the wax you used. It took weeks of scrubbing to get the DHHQ wax completely out of my kid's hair, and I only used the tiniest amount, just on the palms of my hands to make them stickier so palmrolling would work better. Maybe your idea of clean isn't the same as a Mama's? And her hair never did dread up until I allowed the backcombing to fall out. In hindsight, or if I ever do this again, I would not bother with all that backcombing in the first place. I would probably still section the hair, to keep the dreads somewhat uniform, and to prevent too much scalp pain, but the backcombing, IMO, was a total waste of time.
Sometimes back combing stays in, but rarely, and wax isnt the best idea anytime, even if you dont have dreads, it repels water so think how dirty your hair will be. Wash your hair with very hot water, and if you think they are too think comb them out and let them do there own thing, but they do get thicker with time!
