I respected your "I made the correct choice and you didn't" tude til I read your post thanking someone for the fact you didn't have to make a choice because of their work against the draft. I thought that you like my brother in law did prison time for refusing induction or at least had gone through some tense times because of it. Seems you wern't forced to make a choice at all.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad you didn't have to make that choice. In fact me and a whole lot of other vets joined with others to make that situation happen. Know any resister that was able to return from Canada? Vets were at the lead in battle for Universal Unconditional Amnesty for all resisters and deserters.

Not posting this for pats on the back or kisses on the ass gate. Posting it because a lot of young people on this site might have never heard of Dewey Canyon III or Winter Soldier. 20 year olds in the Bay might never have heard the name Brian Wilson or how he lost his legs. They might never have had a vet speak in their classroom or on their campus. They may not know of the vets that have returned to Nam to build hospitals or gone to El Salvador to search for land mines.

Instead of responding to this with name calling I'd be interested in what you think about the fact that as individuals some of the men and women you choose to call baby killers muderers and thugs just might have saved as many if not more lives than you have by turning young people away from war.

Some vets find glory in war. Most never speak of it and deal with the nightmares alone. A lot of us want no honor for having fought a war. We want to use those experiences gained to end it. You my brother don't see a difference.

There are many GI's refusing orders to return or go even once. You seem to think they have no right to speak. I encourage folks that have friends or family considering military service to drag them to hear them speak.

You can call me a baby killer gate. I was in Nam and know 2 1/2 million SE Asians were slaughtered. I despise the term collateral damage.

I disagree with some of the posts from vets on this thread but I also know there is a basis for every decision.

PV,get me back down to earth will ya.Wilson had to lose his legs before he saw what was wrong.Many weren't so lucky. Many still don't see.Anybody can reform,even baby killers.It doesn't change the fact nor does it free them of guilt.However they can go on and still do good.The good can outweigh the bad.Yeah,i missed the draft by a couple of years.i thank the peaceniks,not the vets.At the time i was figuring on Canada.Prison would have made a better statement,but it was prison.In the meanwhile,i'm paying for their educations and houses.i didn't go kill for college,i lived in my car across the street from campus while working construction.Being a non vet,non hired killer,makes you a second class citizen.Then i sit here and read them whine about supossidly being spit on.Fuke this spelling.

 

Oh yeah,they weren't deserters and resisters in need of amnesty,they were americans in need of an apoligy.

Yep there are some jerk vets out there. I deal with them all the time.
