"By Golly, When I was a Kid I had to walk nine miles a day to go to school. Nine miles a day! And you kids think you've got it so tough!" Yeah, sounds like a cliche, doesn't it, but I used to know this old fart who would actually mouth off those very words whenever he got drunk at this bar I used to hang out at. Another thing he'd say is, "Why wouldn't you kids go to Vietnam and fight for your country?!" I'm sure he's dead now, he'd be about 100 today and he wasn't exactly a health freak, but I thought I'd say that there are some people out there who actually do fit into stereotypes.
till i was in 5th grade,, unless the weather was SHIT!! we had to walk a mile to the bus stop, then take a hour long bus ride... ditto commin home.. if the weather was shit someone would pick us up..
Speaking of drunks and buses, Gallagher use to say, "Why don't we use these buses that are taking our kids to the wrong schools (desegregation) and use them to take home all the drunks at the bars." .
When I was a kid I had to get dropped off right in front of the school in the family Volvo. I was probably dressed in some name brand kid fashions. Oh we had it so rough in the suburbs. My kids have had to walk to the bus stop a over a half mile in Alaskan weather. If it's below 30 below zero they get a ride, but other than that they are on their own.
Heh heh. Like Telly Savalas used to say, 'There's less hair to comb, but I have to admit there's more face to wash.' .
