Does anyone else? I'd rather have cramps, because at least you can take some asprin for it. But the runs? Does anyone have any advice on how to make things a little more bearable?

Maybe you should take a look at your diet before and durring your period

the runs are caused byyour lower abdominal muscles contracting to remove the uterine lining-why you get cramps... I would reccommend eating more fiber, and eliminating fatty, greasy foods just before as this tends to make your poopies runnier....

Otherwise, you can just deal-it's only for a couple of days, right? ;-)

We had a thread about this a week or two ago. Some of the chemicals in your body, which promote uterine contractions during your period can "seep" into your intestines and cause the runs. Womyn with Irritable Bowel Syndrome seem more prone to this.

Try removing dairy from your diet for at least a month. The Bovine IGA and Bovine a-lactoalbumin are killers on your GI tract. MOST people are sensitive to them. It isn't just the lactose, it is the proteins, which you can do nothing about except avoid them. You may feel a LOT better in a few months. I used to get period runs all the time. No more dairy, much happier tummy. It still happens occasionally, but not like it used to.

I hope you get better next month.

    Blessings.

So do I... I notice drinking marshmellow root tea helps a lot, not just with the joy that is RBM (rapid bowel movement) but with cramps and the mood a bit too.

I get the runs and bad wind around that time too! Not only is it constant but it is really smelly (sorry for the graphic details)

I don't eat dairy at all and very very rarely fatty foods and lots of fibre, do I don't know if those suggestions will help - but hey its worth a go!

Just wanted to let you know that you weren't alone!
