I personally do not trust doctors very much, it's nothing personal if your a doctor, great, but I probably won't trust you as my pediatrician.

I do trust myself as my own doctor because I research my problems online and find out many of the dozen or so doctors I have seen in the last few years are to busy to stay informed. To busy to go online and review the current cutting edge of the knowledge base is a result of 20 minute appointments all day long, very busy. Also I think these doctors absorb a lot of the patients' worry and stress emotions and have to forget about others probs when they leave the office. Going online to research your own problems is your reasonable responsibility. Heal thyself teacher.

If I was in a car wreck and all smashed up I'd trust the medical establishment to fix me, but I don't really trust them for anything chronic.

i don't dislike doctors but i certainly don't trust them or their opinions. most doctors are fucking morons who have no idea what they're doing and are only in it for the money.

ditto. modern medicine also has some neat tricks for diagnosing disease that can be useful, but treating longterm illnesses pharmaceutically is an exercise in stupidity in almost every case. in the defence of the medical establishment htough, most pple actually seem to want a *magical* pill that's going to fix everything, because it actually takes effort to change lifestyle. let's face it, we live in a fast food type of society where everybody expects results right now, this instant and to hell with the consequences. if more pple would take responsibility for their health, the medical establishment would have to change to reflect a more forward thinking perspective on healthcare.

yeh panzer..............agreed.........wonder if I wake in the morning with the worry of so many people thinking docs do shit to inform people how to stay healthy, the government too, no vitamins on food stamps, it is probable that the idiots are paid off by drug companies wanting to make a buck a prescriptions, docs get a % of every prescription..the clowns are no better than drug pushers. Even natural meds that can be produced from plants from healing at home are not approved by the FDA after showing healings for hundreds of years. When these bozos get their head outta their asses and realize more and more people don't give a god damn shit what some self appointed morons in government decide is right for treatment and approve everything that works , the even more moronic doctors like ass kissing sheep will start informing a patient of hte alternative healing properties of natural meds like the Cesium liquid I take now to stop the cancer I have.........after fucking almost 2 intense years of hte most incredible pain anyone could every endure......from a 50 pound tumor off my stomach, I finally got the cancer stopped and the weight going down. All the experts could say is I shoulda been dead a while back. No wonder I get a sick feeling after i LEAVE the docs office. doctor doom be about.....be on the lookout! blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh makes me icky just thinking about the orthodox medical profession.

I don't trust anyone who gives me chemicals to cover up symptoms I have. the pharmeceutical industry is the biggest money making indistry in the world. I'll be damned if I support that.

I've never gone through something (yet) that couldn't be cured by herbs, or changing my lifestyle.

I have a fear of doctors. Generally, I don't trust them.

With dentists, well, it's even worse.

    Ugh.

Patently untrue. How would they even keep track of something like that? There are thousands of pharmacies nationwide, and thousands of doctors, as well as mail orders ect. They don't get a cut of every scrip written. If that were the case, pain patients wouldn't have any trouble getting treatment.

It IS good to educate yourself, but the internet isn't the only, or even the best place to get information. There are just too many wacko sites to get consistant information. Even the straight medical sites don't always agree with each other. But, yes, eduating yourself, while still understanding that you don't have a Medical Degree, and that you didn't do a 3 year Residency and haven't actually treated a range of patients and seen 50 different presentations of the same condition, can be helpful. As long as you are aware of two things. 1) When your doctor is out of line. So, you require a second opinion. (And a good doctor will not be offended with this.) and 2)knowing where your knowlege isn't enough to actually treat yourself.

If you can treat yourself at home, and the condition doesn't worsen, you probably had a self limiting condition, or a lifestule caused condition. One doesn't usually need a doctor for these. If you've been "treating" yourself for 4 years, and aren't any better, you probably need a second opinion.

I believe doctors are the true humanists of the world, unlike pseudoscientists such as astrologers and creationists, who, as far as I'm concerned, are out to destroy science and modernism. I have more respect for doctors than anyone else. You have no clue if you think they're in it merely for the money. I think there's a sad tendency here to downplay the effect modern medicine has had on life. It has extended life and promoted welfare. It is doctors and researchers who bring to light cures for diseases, etc. Doctors typically labor greatly, even in the face of ill patients, to bring to those patents health.

There is a universally-respected code of ethics with regard to medicine. Think of just how much an effect a doctor could have over your body. The doctor does have the potential to turn to evil and kill off patients he deems weak. But we don't see this.

Dismissing the entire medical establishment because one doctor misdiagnosed you or another gave you meds when you felt you didn't need them is really asinine.

The whole 8-years-of-schooling makes me trust them for the most part. I'd still much rather go to a natural healer, as most meds nowadays have adverse effects on your body, but I still trust doctors. I've only really been there for ear infections, strep throat, and one accident though, so it's not like I'm there every month :p

I don't believe doctors all chooe a career in medicine for the money. Sure, there is money to be made, but the people I've met that are doctors are their because they enjoy making a difference. They embrace challenges, learning, teaching, and healing. I have great respect for that. I think there are plenty careers were you could say people just get in them for the money. For some people, that may be true, but many people pick careers they will enjoy. I don't many think people would go through the scrutiny of medical school and residency just for the money. It's a lot of work. Just like schooling for other careers in healthcare. I think the doctor-patient relationship should be a team. Patients should take responsibility for their own well-being, and become educated about conditions that effect them, and their treatments. Although, like Maggie said, doctors have gone to school, and seem the same disease several times, and know the process better than the lay-person. They are an important piece of the healing process.

doctors only see their patients for a few minutes and based on that they're making huge decisions about the health of that person. each individual knows their own body much better than any doctor ever could. and sadly, a lot of docs are so busy that they dont have much time to spend taking a decent history. there are a lot of misdiagnosis that are made. and, hate to say it, but just because someone is a doctor, it doesnt mean that they're a good doc. not everyone graduates at the top of their class, iykwim. do you want the doc who graduated at the bottom of their class?

I have known a few doctors (a couple of old Osteopaths, as well as a few MD's) that were really more concerned with helping people instead of making a buck, and even treated me and members of my family for free. Most doctors, however, are really mainly in the profession for the money, prestige, etc.

People really need to educate themselves and practice preventive medicine, getting good nutrition, and try to keep themselves healthy-then when they do get medical care, take it with a healthy dose of skepticism. Care from doctors can be benificial, but only when you take rtesponsiblity for your own health.

One of the doctors that I respected the most told me one time, 'stay away from doctors as much as you can-they'll fuck your life up if you let them!'. I've tried to be my own doctor as much as possible and take his advice! I've been a lot healthier for it.

I trust real doctors, people who are specialists in certain health fields. I don't however trust the everyday physical check up doctor because they are the lowest of the low of health care practictioners.
