mmm i love red pepper hummus
this is how i make it (keep in mind I never really measure anything...I just keep tasting it as I add stuff until it tastes how I want it) -

    1 can of garbanzo beans
    1/3 - 1/2 cup of tahini paste
a couple tablespoons of lemon juice
about half of a red pepper chopped up into tiny pieces
    salt to taste
    optional things for taste >
    2-3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
a tablespoon or two of olive oil
    chili oil

mush everything up with a potato masher or fork

Garlic is optional? How can you make hummus without garlic? :p

I make my hummus in the blender. Using a fork seems like too much work, but I guess if you don't have a blender or food processor you do what you got to do. :)

Hummus is really easy to make and you can put pretty much anything in it.

I love hummus. Roasted red pepper is fantastic. I've made black bean hummus with is really excellent too. I always make mine in my blender, which is super quick.

I wonder, have any of you ever made a hummus from lentils? I think it might be interesting to try and make!

Meat in hummus ... Why the hell would anyone do that?

I love hummus too. Really should make my own sometime but the shops here never seem to stock tahini.

I like it chunky :) (and i dont have a blender)

  8. Sage-phoenix: it's possible to do it without tahini. I often do, so it's by no means essential. :)

Oh, and I don't have a blender either, so mine tends to be quite chunky. I do like it like that. I think 'rustic' is the word. :p

Tahini is hard to find here too. I know only of one store that carries it, and luckily it is right next to where I live. But is hummus good without it? Seems to me it is a pretty important ingredient.

I first tried hummus from this restaurant I use to live close to. It was SO good and creamy. So my impression is that hummus should be creamy. I can't get it that creamy with my blender though, so my idea of it has changed somewhat. I have not tried it chucky though. :)

Hummus with meat??? but .... how ... could anyone do that? lol

I have had black been hummus. It is pretty good, but I have never had it made from lentils. Could be worth a try.

  10. Would that be with lentils instead of chickpeas?

i never hand made it, but my mom did and the place where i work does. hummus is awesome. it did throw me off a bit when i found out that chickpeas are in it cause i thought chickpeas was an old person food. my grandma used to eat it all the time and always asked her why she liked it. she said it was a great snack. well now i lovvvvvvvvvvvvve chickpeas..

get some three colored twists the red green and yellow kind...boil it. then cut some red peppers or green (i like the taste of red better) onions, tomoatoes and whatever else beggies you want to put in there...actually chick peas too...then chop then up togerher in a bowl. refridgerate the pasta untill cold. then add the veggies in and choose your favorite dressing for the salald.

    enjoy
