Do not talk to me about patriotism while: 1.) shitting on the constitution that your countrymen died for (military commissions act, patriot act, AETA, wiretapping, signing statements). 2.) shitting on american veterans' benefits (the ones who make it home after you've shafted them out of proper equipment and sent them to hell and back). 3.) shitting on your mothers and fathers (68 years old and working for min wage at walmart to pay for meds). 4.) shitting on american workers (friends of CEOs who cut benefits, outsource jobs, and hire illegal immigrants, fucking unions you know the ones that brought you weekends and overtime pay). 5.) shitting on american families (tapping into home equity just to get by that's some kind of "ownership society" you got, 1/3 of families don't have health care, and making it more difficult to file bakruptcy instead of addressing the reasons for filing bankruptcy namely health care bills). 6.) shitting on american education (how much does your kids tuition cost now?) Last time i read about the founding fathers, "patriotism" didn't equal "blind allegience" in their eyes, it meant standing up for americans... Explain to me how you can love your country and shit all over your countrymen, is your love for the american flag or the american people? Fucking snake oil salesmen...
Patriotism is the idiot form of Nationalism. For example: If you're a Nationalist, you're loyal to your country. If you're a Patriot, you're just an ignorant idiot who thinks his country's the best compared to others. I for one look down on Patriots and laugh at them, they're like the village idiots. Remember folks, Nationalists are people who gives reasons to why their country is so great ( not the best ) and support it no matter what. Patriots where T-Shirts with their country's flag on it while pissing in the wind.
Patriotism is the highest form of respect for your country...I am a patriot because I love america and i love the consitution, It makes me angry to see people like Bush take a crap on both of these things, and same with the families who control Bush like the Rothschilds and the Rockefellers, it makes me angry to see the BATF triple in size and break into innocent peoples homes who just want to posess weapons. It makes me angry to see the NSA spying on american citizens guilty of nothing. a true patriot would be completely against the system in America and the rest of the world, so don't say that patriotism is evil, it's the system thats evil.
Most folks buy into this administration for the promise of security, if they only knew this administration can't promise anything. They have expended our military forces to the point where we have no reserves left. Their portfolios have multiplied, but innocent Iraqies an American GIs have lost their lives. Bush and his administration are rich beyond belief, and they continue to try and buy more power. How many children are we willing to lose? How many children do we have to sell?
I thought it was the Nationalists who had the superiority complex while Patriots are just citizens that love and support their country and it's ideals. Like AHH, I consider myself a true patriot. I'm all for the literal interpretation of the constitution, 100% free speech..for the way the founding fathers of this nation intended it to be. Not this shit-filled shell our current government tries to pass off as the USA. Ben Franklin is turning in his grave right now.
How many Bushes,Cheneys, and Rices are serving in this war against terroism? How about the other members of congress and the administration....how many of their familes are serving? They expect you to bury your children and consider it part of the price of your security, but what are they contributing?
They want us all to fight the war on terrorism, it's time for a draft. It's time to see their kids have to fight the good fight. Not just the poor kids and those that have bought into the spiel. During WWII everyone contributed to the cause, why is it different now? During Vietnam they made everyone send their children, why is it different now? Because it's politically expedient. The rich don't have to send their kids. Those that enlist aren't allowed under their original contracts "under no loss" to leave, they have to serve and serve again, while the rich kids get a pass. It's time to demand draft or full disclosure. Amputees are put back into active duty. Time to think about these things folks.
It's time that some of those in Washington have to bury their dead. Why should the little man who has no viable rights sacrifice their children for the monetary gain of the powerful in Washington. For nine years the minimum wage and employee rights have been eroded, while the lower and middle class Americans have sacrificed their sons and daughters. It's time to stand up and stand tall, and demand equality.
Shane, Pardon an old hippie's feeble mind, could you clearify something for me. I agree that all the things you listed are just flat wrong.... no problem here with that. But are you saying patriots cause those problems by doing them, or that patriots cause those problems by not preventing them, or at least doing something to correcting them? Thanks. Peace, poor_old_dad
I'm saying that a lot of people who call themselves "patriots" and who ramble on about patriotism and love of country actually show no love at all to their countrymen, only to a symbol... I have no real problem with patriotism other than i'm not enamormed with it myself.
I blame Toby Keith. But yeah..my loyalty goes with my common sense before it goes with my country. If leaders in my country do something I think is wrong, of course I'm going to call them out on it. I'm gonna have to agree with Maximus, even if these pseudo-patriots piss me off sometimes, you really have to feel a little sorry for them and their brainwashed minds.
I have a partially different opinion. People who call themselves patriots while screwing their countrymen, looting the country, raping the environment, etc., etc., are liers and hypocrites. But it has nothing to do with a symbol, unless it's this one -> $$$. Those people are out for their own self enrichment, a personal agenda. that sort of thing. They are not patriots. But I know that some, some who truely & totally believe they're doing what is, in fact, in this countries' best interest. Some of them I strongly disagree with, some I out right hate. But I'll, grudgingly perhaps, admit they are patriots, because in the cases I'm thinking about, they're putting their own interests aside for what they truely believe is best for the country. One of the most basic, maybe THE most basic, attribute of a patriot in a representative democracy is to be an informed voter. Not just informed, not just a voter, but an informed_voter - as though all one word. A person who is not an informed voter, but could be, is not a partiot. They are an enabler, like someone who knows a congressional page is being victimized by a congressman & does nothing about it. The enabler, the non-informed_voter, isn't doing it, but is not trying to stop it either. The absence of the informed voter patriot has led to the absence of a proper representative democracy and given us what we have now, which I'd describe as an aristocratic democracy. That's where the rich & powerful democratically choose the leaders from among themselves. The lying, greedy, hypocrities are not patriots and are certainly bad. Those who are letting them get away with it, the folks who should be informed voter but aren't, are not partiots, and they may be worse than the liers. They could stop those who are screwing the country, and world, up.... but they don't. Let's face it... if the voters who aren't informed, got informed, and those who don't vote become informed voters, together they could change everything. Sad thing is, I just don't see it happening. And it's for sure nothing else will. Peace, poor_old_dad
100% free speech, that'll be the day. Nationalists are those who believe you can only say good about your nation and support it, or get the hell out, now that's right.
Let me give an outsider's perseptive... Most Americans have been raised to be patriots. In school, in the media, in alot of aspects of american life, so more people are seeing themselfs as patriots, and try their best to help their fellow contrymen and women and, of-course, their country. People tap into this patriotic for their own needs: like, "THE ALL AMERICAN CAR" or "vote for me, and for america". When the patriot act came along, The informed people thought "hang on, this isn't right, this will restrict simple freedoms, like free-speech" or "freedom from oppression". A majority of these informed people complained, but to no avail, they we're heard and igored. These Informed people were patriots, who followed the constatution to the book. Then you had that poor Mr and Mrs Wobleska of Freetown, Nevada. They look at the act and when it lays out all those plans for impaired rights. They see it and think "hang on here, this says that I'm not allowed to complain on this". The guys supporting the patriot act on catipol hill say "This act will protect america! You wnat amaerica to be protected, don't you want that?" And so they agree. These were patriots like the ones above, but who we're convinsed it's all for the greater good out of fear. Really it's the politics of fear. "Give us rights to tap your phonecalls, emails, internet, accounts, ect, and well give you protection. Disagree and YOU are playing into the terrorist's hands". Damned if you do, damned if you don't, but if you bring this to the attention of others and gt them to stand up and be counted, eventally, the guys and gals on Capital hill will be faced with a conundrum: 'Listen to these people or face International condemation....' Stand Up and Be counted, Keep it peaceful.
If you want to get technical, Sweden is probably the most balanced country in the world, great army ( per capita if you consider reserve forces much like in Switzerland, Sweden has 300,000 reserve troop, Switzerland has 500,000 ). Great economy, exellent health system, social structure, law, and education system. Sweden also has a great geographical position and a good sports program. Switzerland is a very great nation too but they have a horrid geographical position and their sports program is lacking ( although for 6 Million people ). It's countries such as Sweden and Switzerland that should be considered among the best. The United States is too disorderly, although granted that's near 300 Million people, but it has many flaws, education system varies state by state, a quarter of the country is either poor, addicted to some illegal substances ( marijuana, cocaine, heroin ext ) or in prison. United States is however the best nation to go to if you're a cold hearted bussinessman bent on wealth, although now I don't know, Japan seems to be a better market, so does Germany.
This girl in my class at college just did a speech on sweden it sounds awesome...and she was really hot.
