today i bought a hamster. and hes fuzzy and blackk and white and i can tell he is soon to be the love of my life...but what exactly do hamsters need. i think he needs something to curl up in and sleep because he doesnt look all that comfortable...so yeah. any information would be the shit.
whats the setup ugot now? a hollowed out log or something to hide in..umm wood chips (checktho some animals need certain types & can be harmed by other types) food & water bottle..& maybe something to play/excercize in.. if u just got him he will look unconfy for maybe even a week or 2..just get himused to u being near..withyour hands in the cage till hes more confuy in his new home & with you in general havent had 1 of those since i was really young..but i'n prettyused to all sorts of critters & alot of its just common sence.. hamsters are fairly easy to care for tthough so just make him confy &? you'll be pretty happy together
Hey!Give him some beding, even tissue if you have nothing better. They really like toilet paper rolls usually to play with...and maybe some sort of chew toy or something cause they like to knaw. You prob have a wheel, those are pretty important for them to get exercise. Other then that just make sure it has water. And make sure you pick him/her up alot so it can get used to you and comfortbale and stuff...And I actually have this list of do's and don'ts of what to feed hamsters... Like you never want to feed them lettuce, because they can get sick, also leaves from tomato plants, salty foods, onions, foods that are to sugary, human sweets, fruit is good but not to often because it's so sweet and acidic... But most veggies are good, yohart is really good from time to time, they really like tofu, fruit sometimes, seeds of course...like the hamster food packs are good. other then that just keep the cage clean, cause it's not healthy for hamsters to live in their waste for to long, plus they get so stinky. What's your hamsters name???
We've had them, and they are really nice pets. They need good bedding. Regular pine chips are good. Don't use cedar, as it can make the animal sick. They NEED things to chew. They are rodents and if they don't wear their teeth down, they will grow through their mouths and they won't be able to eat, and they will get infections too. A good, mixed hamster food is the best thing for them to eat. DO NOT give them peanuts, it gives them gas, which is very hard for them to pass, and they will get sick and cry, it's sad. (We made this mistake with one, because he loved the couple of nuts in his hamster chow, so we got him peanuts, and he got sick. Luckily, we figured out in time why he was crying and gave him stuff to make him poop and he was fine, then.) They can be hand fed treats (we just used our hamster chow, one piece at a time, though the bars or while we were handling them) once they start to trust you. They are most likely to be happy to be handled in the evening, right after dark, as they are nocternal animals. The little wheels are nice, as they need exercise. They LOVE to hide in small place, so those hamster houses, with tunnels between the rooms are good. We gave our last one a baby sock to sleep in. He LOVED that sock. When we got him, he was missing his mama, it was SOOOOOOO sad, so we got him the baby sock to cuddle up in, and he always would clean it and sleep in it. Make sure they have at least two sources of clean water. They will instincually find those lilttle water bottles, but if they aren't drinking you may have to show them, if they are babies. Congrats. Hamsters are great pets. Enjoy your little fluffy ball.
