I'm referring to the anti-pot people who claim that weed is way way more potent these days than it used to be back in the 60's, 70's, whenever.
A dirty lie.
The first weed I smoked ('67) was the legenday Acapulco Gold, one of my top 3 strains of all time. Sun-dried (which turned it gold in color) it was 100% sativa and produced an incredible clear-headed, happy high.
There was also Panama Red, and good weed from Guererro and Oxaca, 2 regions of Mexico.
Yeah, there was also a lot of crappy low-potency schwag too if you couldn't find the good stuff. Just like nowadays.
In the 70's there was Columbian Gold and one of the most potent strains ever, Thai stick. The best Thai stick was opiated (opium mixed in with the weed). Now THAT was some heavy-duty shit.
About the time Columbian and Thai stick dried up the first strains of potent Humboldt started reaching L.A.
So the claim that there was no potent pot back then is A LIE.

I've also read from the same anti-potters that nowadays there are a lot more hospital emergency room visits due to high potency weed.
Emergency rooms?
What, are there people who take their kids to the emergency room and say "Doc you gota help us, our kid is happy"?

i always found it hard 2 beleive when my parents said the weed is much stronger now than it was in the 60's

 

people say weed is stronger but they're referring to hybrids. newer methods of cross pollination sees potencies in cannabis which weren't around back then, and this is probably what these anti-pot people are picking up on.

 

Too bad its a fact that weed nowadays is actually much much more potent then back in the 60's. Even our own government knows this. You can say all you want about how much better it was back then but it is a fact that weed has gotten more potent. Its just a fact man.

this should be an interesting debate... i have a feeling that there was weed back then that was easily as potent as shit now, however, it might have been harder to find. i mean, the average mids then might have been shit compaired with mids now, i have no idea, i wasnt alive back then. however, i think that higher grade stuff is alot more common nowadays. maybe im wrong, to be completely honest i have no idea, but ill be checking back to this thread to see what people are saying, for sure. good topic.

There was super-potent weed back then, crappy weed and everything in between, just like nowadays.

 

I think weed in general is just better quality these days, well depending where you live, I know down south mids are still the common, but up here for example, most weed is at least what can be called dank or really good mids for some cheaper stuff, and I've heard plenty of older smokers say that the weed is just better then it use to be.

 

i actually was reading a book about it today when i should have been doing psychology reasearch... it said that the weed from the 70s that was tested was shwag in the first place, and because it had been sitting in police storage for so long that it had lost its potency almost completetly, and it was tested against current high middies... so that because of that it seemed like todays weed was more potent... but in reality, no
weed DID get slightly more(very slightly) potent during the 70s but has been pretty constant since then

 

It was no harder to get in the 70s, when I was a kid, than it is for MY kids to get now, nor is it more potent.

its not like the environment has changed all that much since the 60's

any weed that was grown outdoors, in propers season, harvested, and cured, has the potential as being a potent as any weed today.

i have seen middies bag seed grown into a nice headies plant outdoors. same way it could of and was done in the 60's

 

I agree ranger, this 45 year old that was staying with my friend a few years back would tell us about the bud back then, he said there was this columbian bud that looked completely yellow, like the light yellow color, and he said the bud back then was just as potent if not more. And the fact that Marijuana, which as been used for thousands of years by humans magically evolved and got magically stronger in the last 50-60 years is rediculous and youd only have to be a fool to believe it. If your perents or anti pot or w/e say it was bunk then they had poor connections back then. Most of the perents that raised kids in my generation smoked dope in the 70's. Its true too Ive had many pot talks with many of my best friends perents, why my best friend , me and him are like brothers, his mom called me after I got busted apologizing for giving them consent to search her car which my friend was driving. Because she thought we never had anything but I did. She said what I did wasnt wrong, and that she talked to the cops about it because even she said her , all her friends and most of the perents she knows all smoked pot back then. And they all tell me the same thing, it was jus as good if not better. And people who say it was bad are the people who had shitty dealers. Shit the last time I had a nice long laugh was when Bush said that they had to stop the flow of marijuana coming across the border from BC because he claims Canadian pot is much more potent, to the point where it causes dependancy.... I laughed for a good 10-20 minutes . Most people that are older now,, like way older past thier 60's treat it like heroin. And so does america, which I have no clue why.

 

Well, I can't speak for all weed back in the 60's.. but.. I can say that weed sucked when I was in high school... Now, back in the 80s' we didn't have anything like today.. I pretty much stopped smoking when I discovered better things (acid, mushrooms), and just never went back... I use to tell people its boring... the stuff we had back then was crap.. it was brown (no buds), no red hairs and crystals, just crap.. it had huge seeds in most of it, and stems galore... Anyhow, going back a few years ago, I tried some of "today’s weed"... and the rest is history... its no the same thing what so ever... back then, if you smoked enough, you may have gotten a small buzz, a bit of giggles, but not like today’s...

On the other hand, perhaps the stuff that would make its way thought the high schools is not the same what we get our hands on now that we actually have money... Also I've had bad weed today as well... but... the majority of the time, its very good... back then, it was rare to find something decent...

I remember the first time I got wickedly high... I smoked for about 6 months, and never thought weed does much for ya... then one day we were at a beach party, and the last thing I remember someone saying was a word I never forgot afterwards... (hey, this is sensei...).

whats up gangaguru,oops (rangerdanger) this is skunk from marijuana passion whats up? youre my friend and all but i would have to disagree with ya on this 1 . i guess alot of you who do agree has never smoked white widow huh ? my opinion on this is that people who has smoked mj back in the 60s and 70s were newbies back then to smoking and maybe columbian , acapolca gold was like ww now the with the highest thc content you can get on the market. however my feeling about it is like the1st time i got drunk off wiskey it was southern comfort . me and a buddy of mine when we was 14 drank a whole 5th of it and got so f------ up we through 38cal bullets in our campfire and woke up at 5am in the morning with gunshots shooting everywhere and we could not do anything but laugh and say yehawwwww getem longranger. well still to this day i dare to get that drunk off any whiskey and still thinking none could of even came close to getting us that drunk anyways . now i bet everyone of you can say theres a whiskey out there that would f---- us up worse than southern comfort easily . but that is my memory and we all can say theres whiskey out there like moonshine or bacardi that is stronger . and to get to my point thc stays in your system and people build a tolerance to it similar to alcohol but not quet but most people who did in fact smoke it in the 60s n 70s are still smoking it now school teachers , principals,doctors, lawyers ect but once you build a little tolerance to thc or alcohol there will never be a better time than your first time with what is and was good stuff.

anyways... ranger is correct.. there is no difference in potency today as there was back in the 60-70's... there have been studies done.. i mean if you want to split hairs.. ok.. i think they said its like .7% stronger than it use to... but .7 is nothing... i think if anything... there are more potent strains out now.. than back then.. i dont mean more potent.. just potent.. from cross breading.. and such.. look at it like this.. 60-70s.. there was schwag.. this this and this.. now theres schwag.. this this and that and this and that and this and that and this.. and such... theres just more potent plants out there today than there use to be

 

The reason why you think weed nowadays sucks is because your getting the shitty bunk weed that looks like dirt. You know the dirt brown weed with seeds galore.

 

Ok Ok weither pot was better than or now, we can all agree fuck what the Anti-pot people say, its mostly dirty lies, any thing htat is truthfull is stretched and shown in a light that makes it look a 1000 times worse than it is. They also forget to mention the good affects of weed.
