oooh.. I've been doing my family tree for a while!! I'll compile some links for you later and put them up!! so worth doing I managed to get back to the 1600's on one side
Aye, my Dad's been doing ours, he's got back pretty far too. I think he uses ancestry.co.uk or .com - But I think there's a membership fee to pay.
ok! Start off at www.genesreunited.com there you can use as a base and build your tree etc, it will also tell you if you match with other people, to make it even easier. Then I would get as much background from family as possible, bith/marriage/death certificates, if you can get as far back as at least 1901, get yourself into the 1901 census, search for your relatives on there, it will also let you know everyone else living at the address and age etc, so you can then estimate birthdates.. try that here.. http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ I can't remember if it costs on there, but most places its something like £5 for 50 credits.. most I've paid in the whole time is about £15 and thats not uch over about a year or so.. would cost more if you actually sent off for the certificates etc, but just print screen them and save details instead! ok. 1851 census if your lucky enough to find people on the 1901 census and they are aged 50 or orver, chances are you will find them here with all the births, deaths and marriages etc www.ancestry.co.uk I love this site the most.. very handy.. can be very annoying too, but you can find good stuff This site I found very helpful at the very beginning http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/familyhistory/ I have more info, I'll post it later Be warned, it'll keep you up past your bedtime! adictive as hell!
