    Pantera or Sabbath?

kudos to sabbath for creating such a great tune, but the production on the pantera ver is way superior!

Sabbaths for sure, although I do agree that the production is far better on Pantera's version, you'd be foolish not to call on the original.

I do think Cathedral's version of Solitude is almost as great as the original though.

Talking about covering Solitude, the Swedish black metal band Blodsrit has done an excellent cover of Candlemass' song by this name. Very aggressive, in contrast to the original. Check it out, and while you're at it, try the song Illdjarn from the same album (Helveteshymner) as well. Real good.

what a twisted world ya gotta live in to even come up with this - sabbath of course. Saying production is the reason its a better song is like saying you prefer a happy meal because the burger comes in a cheerful box!

there was some pretty high end equipment in '70. that doesn't mean they didnt record into junk though.

    oh, and I prefer sabbath's

if you wanna hear really low quality, try sabbath's Live at last

No question. Definitely Sabbath's. It's their psychedelic rock song.

    Black Sabbath.

the warmth and atmosphere of an analog recording is hard to copy.

    THIS!

No disrespect to Pantera but you can't beat the original.
