I have to figure out a college course so I know what I want to do. Problem is, nothing I look at even interests me to say the least. I'm at my wit's end, I'm just so confused about what I'm doing. How am I supposed to go to college if theres nothing I want to take? P.S. I WANT to go to college.
Engineering? Maybe mechanical engineering? You're lucky you're asking yourself these question while you're still under 20 years old my friend.
So, you want to go to college, but you don't know what you want to do... Am I reading you right that you're looking through the course offerings but not seeing anything you want to take? If so, I suggest taking a year or two off. That doesn't mean not going to school as long as you really do want to go. That just means getting some real world experience under your belt, get some of your partying out of the way without it dragging your gpa down, and taking some time to get a better sense of what interests you. Now, if I'm reading you wrong, and you're just trying to figure out a whole fucking course of study for your entire college career, but there are individual classes that look interesting, then take those classes. Every person I have met thus far who declared a major during their freshman year wound up changing majors at least once (several did so several times). Take some general education credits, figure out what you enjoy -- not just what interests you but what you genuinely enjoy -- and THEN decide what to major in.
how about taking up mechanical engineering? it is quite an interesting field. my x b/f was a biomedical engineering major. college can be overwhelming when it comes to taking the right courses. how about you talk to an academic advisor at your school? good luck!
another suggestion for mechanical engineering. Try to find a school that can offer a lot and start taking some classes, see what you enjoy and then go from there.
Almost all degrees have general education requirements, which can be a goood way of exposing you to different options. Maybe you should just start out with those, and you will feel pulled in a certain direction. If not, at least when you figure out what you want to do, you will have some of your general education credits completed already.
If possible, do only "general studies" the first year, you can beef up the math elective to calculus and take physics instead of physical science so you won't get bored. Be sure to take American History, since the time period is compressed the topics seem more "personal" than World History, and you just might find out you like it better than you imagined. Think you'd like to teach, or go on to an advanced degree to do research? Physics might suit your interests. It's where I started, but I just didn't have the head for the math and chemistry skills needed for a background, so I ended up eventually in Finance ... and wound up as an accountant. Itza carayzy wurld out dere.
Go into college undiclared, and then figuere it out in school. Better this way, no departamental fees your first year.
I decided what I'm taking and I'm enrolled. Starting September 2007. I'm going to be a Instrumentation Technician.
