War crimes and civilians

    What does the Geneva Convention and laws of war say about civilians who shoot at soldiers in war? We clearly are losing many soldiers and marines to such action in Iraq. Can civilians be held accountable for such actions if their acts of shooting soldiers are indeed war crimes?

    P.S. I tried putting this under the Politics Forum, but wasn't allowed to, so it's here in the Protest Forum.

    American Law says they are treated as combatants I think..

    But as for it treats such people, it seems to change the goalposts to fit the occasion...

    A good thread though

    I think before I considered whether or not they should be held for "war" crimes, I would look at the cause of the war.

    The US minutemen were a civilian militia organized to fight a conflict inflicted on them by what they saw as unreasonable outside intrusion. Were they war criminals?
